hey there everyone....

ok so my computer has decided to get emo on me....well my gf's comp that is...:rolleyes:

so ive decided to build my own seeing as i dont have abysses for pockets.......... Can anyone help me build my own computer?

i just need some help with bios and how to check that the parts i buy are compatible with each other and maybe come some other shit that may show its head on the way... i wont actually have a problem putting it together its just bios that im a lil un-nerved about..

comments,help and write ups are more then welcome and yes i feel like a noob...
 
What Does The Computer That Died Have In It, And What Are You Looking For The New One To Do? Could Be As Simple As Just Installing New Motherboard, Processor And Ram Into The Existing Tower.
 
nothing much has really happened ive already put a new motherboard and shit to the one im using but im just looking at getting my own...so there are no more fights over the computer

for the computer i just want something that will run counter strike and puzzle pirates....(dont laugh im addicted to puzzle pirates)

and something that can handle me watching dvd's and listen to music on it....just the standards....

im more here to ask help with bios (because thats where my worries are) and to know if it is hard at all to do bios....*overcome with noob feeling*

Well, if you buy an ABIT MB, it has an awesome windows bios flash utility that works great. Bios isnt THAT important. Only if you have a really outdated bios and need to install a big hard drive is where you could run into problems.
 
lol well ill be building the computer from scratch so i assume ill need to run bios...

ill probably be running a few harddrive on it for music and pics and shit...ive got a few laying around my house which may aswell be used....

is there a bios disc i can download/buy or does it come with certain parts?

lol im so confused about the whole bios thing lol...
 
dont worry i got the parts and build the mother fucker today.....

ill post up about it later...still not running right i need to go buy a harddrive for it cuz the ones i have are fuckadoodledoooed....

Man thats a smelly heaping pile of shit. Its called BIOS (Basic Input/Out System) for a reason. A crappy BIOS is a crappy broad.

With the BIOS you control the recognition of new devices, what channels for them to use, RAID array, FSB on the chip/ram, voltage on chip/chipset/ram, and so many other things. Saying its not THAT important is just ignorant.

However, in general, when constructing a new rig, you dont have to play with the BIOS much, or at all, if you dont intend to overclock or do anything "1337." The only time would probably to adjust the boot order and putting in the date, which is all very easy to do.

Anyway, most current boards have BIOS that support hard drives bigger than 120GB, so thats not much of an issue. Its more of the OS because XP requires a service pack, forgot which one, before you can install a large hard drive. Again that should be much of a problem either.

Lastly, its not only ABIT boards that have a windows based program to flash boards. ASUS, GIGABYTE, and many others have their own or use winflash to update BIOS. There are very select few that stick with floppy, for what reasons I have no idea. And most important, never update a BIOS unless you need to.

PS look up my computer build guide section. it may have some valuable info and ill be updating when i get a chance.
 
lol thanks mang....already had a look at your build thread before...good stuff

mine is already complete and bios wasnt an issue with it....

now i just need to buy a new harddrive 250gig or 500gig one or the other due to the fact my old ones are either screwed up or dont have d drive set up ????? :huh: wierd tell me about it im slowly getting the stuff off them and putting it onto my other computer and burning it to disc so thank god for USB....
 
I would suggest that when you get your computer up and running with a fresh install of Windows you use an image utility and make a backup. Norton Ghost, Deep Freeze, Drive Snapshot, or something of the sort. My process is install Windows, essential programs, defrag, make a backup image of the drive, it reduces recovery time immensely.
 
thanks bro brilliant fucking idea....

the computer should be fully up and running in a few weeks...im just making use of my old p2 harddrives and removing all the shit i had on them.....harddrive and router purchases and installation has been delayed due to needing of new suspension and cv joints....the car had to be towed to the shop :(

I guess smelly piece of crap = the truth. Anyway bios is not a big deal. It really depends on what you are going to be hooking up to it and what your using it for. Its not crucial for it to be up to date.

Dude, do you even know what you are talking about? If you do not have the correct BIOS, your system wont boot or may not function properly. Thats why they release BIOS updates for example some of the older Intel boards couldnt support Core 2 Duo without an update.

Anyway, I dont want to argue with you because obviously you dont have a clue. However, its true that you should not upgrade your BIOS if nothing is wrong and most users wont need to touch it, but to say its not crucial, you sir, work for "fire dog."

I think more what they meant is that BIOS is not something that needs to be keep up with, such as updates, and fixes, while yes, at the very core of building a computer the BIOS are very important, after it's built it's rare to use them again, unless absolutely nescessary.
 
Depending on which motherboard you have it is sometimes necessary to update your bios. Sometimes their are compatibility issues with different hardware setups that the manufacturers did not consider and therefore they must be updated. However this is not very common especially when using a good brand mobo.

Ya, have no clue, only been in IT for a fortune 100 company for the last 15 years. Probably built more pc's then you've gotten laid, but hey, what do I know.

right. Thanks for backing me up, I love how some people think they know what they are doing....BIOS is important, but only when it come to what you are going to hook up to the pc, and what you are going to use it for. It's not crucial.
