I have a 97 EX SOHC Jackson SC that won't pass EMISSIONS!!!
keeps saying "not ready"for the O2 , cat and evap for the past 2 years!!!
My friend hooked it up to a wideband O2 and the fuel fluxuates just a lil when in boost not too lean/rich runing about 60psi on the fuel regulator...Anyone have this problem??or the same set up with no problems???
What kind of set-up do you have to pass EMISSIONS!!!!...I'm losing my mind with this!!!My fathers worked for HONDA R&D for 25yrs now and can't figure it out either!!!he brought home a Honda diagnostic and still don't know what's wrong...someone help here or have the same problem??

Factory Injectors/ECM
Basic bolt-ons Headers,Intake,cam gear,exhaust
6-7Psi
MSD 6AL
No name FMU
BBK 255 fuel pump
VAFC hooked up but, fuel curve isn't working??

i've never had that problem, but they used to sell this stuff called "garuanted to pass" that my uncle used to use

well it seems that it has something to do with the fuel since it says the EVAP-CAT-O2 are in"Not Ready"mode..but,it's not running too rich or lean sooooo??

DING DING and DING

Put the stock iginition back on, ditch the FMU/VAFC and get your ECU chipped so that you can properly tune your engine to run boost.

I don't think putting a chip in it would fix it....if it was running too lean or rich the papers on the emission would say the O2-EVAP-CAT "Failed" but,it's been saying that it's in a "Not Ready"mode...but,it's said that everytime though for the past 2 yrs...even after I reset the ecu(10-12times) and do the readiness drives for 200 miles or so each time....still nothing..I disconnected the VAFC today but, still trying to figure out what's exactly wrong....this kit is suppost to be 50 state legal and even Jackson Racing doesn't know what's wrong with this....really they were NO help...

take that fmu out i just went through the same headache with a car similar to yours and i took that out and finally passed that damn test

For Real??...was it an OBD11??...do they just plug it up or do they do the "smog test"where you live??? my theory here is the JRSC comes with a FMU/FPR and it's suppost to pass 50 state legal... if I take that off wouldn't it be running too lean???...wouldn't it trigger the ecu saying it's running lean which would send a code without the CEL on....so when I take it in this time it would say the CAT-O2 "failed"rather than "Not Ready"??...I don't know??...it's worth a try??

when you drive it dont get on it they dont have smog tests here but i went through emission 7 times before i finally figured out the problem when you read the code does it come up as cattalyst efficent below threshold? or something like o2 sensor high voltage (bank1 sensor 2)

I don't remember if it said that or not...when my friend showed me the emissions on the computer I just remember writing down what didin't pass on the paper....all I remember is it still said it was in a "Not Ready"mode for all three....and it needed to be driven but,I've put at least 3 tank fulls and i've reset the ECU 10x...mostly driven on the HWY...so did they just plug it up at your emissions....I'm willing to try anything...but,do I need to put the factory FPR on and drive it like that for about 100miles or so HWYect....or should I just take the FMU off and take it straight to emissions which is about 10 miles away??..

i would take that fmu out and run it to stock regulator and see if it throws any codes and take it to emissions

The thing is I never threw a CEL when I drove it the way it is...it's only when I took it to emissions it tells me the O2 EVAP CAT are still not ready

If you reset the ECU, won't that cause them to be "not ready"?

Yeah if you don't put at least 60 miles on it...but, everytime I reset the ECU I did the "Readiness"driving for around 200 miles..one time I put about 800 miles before taking it to the emissions and still saying the same thing..."Not Ready"...but,it only says that for the O2-CAT-EVAP..nothing else...everthing else is passing...I don't get it???I am thinking about just putting the factory FPR on like 10sec.hatch said and just driving lightly without hittin boost too much for about 30-45 miles then going to emissions but,I don't know...I need to try something without dumping more money in this...I know it's something minor I just can't pin point it....

What are you running for a catalytic converter?
Is your second o2 sensor new/recently replaced?

It's a Catco...it's new...both O2 sensors are new...they both didn't pass the first time...when I replaced both of them one passed and the other is in a Not Ready mode...the old O2 though was pretty burnt though...it looked like it leaned out because for the longest time it was running lean with the JR FPR...now it's been running fine at 60 psi with a no name FPR...

IF you're even thinking of taking the FMU out and running on just the stock FPR just to see if tht's the problem, make sure you zip-tie the blower bypass wide open so it can't boost. If the car goes under boost on just the stock FPR, it will go retarded lean and probably fry the engine on the spot.

It does sound like it could be the FMU, but if the car had the same prob with the JR FMU, then I dunno...

I'm not all too familiar with 97 EX's, where exactly are your O2s- one pre-cat and one post? If that's the case it sounds like the secondary O2 isn't heating up to operating temp with could mean it's either running rich or you're running too cold of plugs. In either case its an easy fix- go back to hotter plugs or try a heated O2 secondary if your stock one isn't (shouldn't be I don't think?)

You can't get your ecu chipped in order to pass inspection, your car is OBD2 which can't be chipped unless you go with K-Pro. Other than that you would have to convert to OBD1 which won't pass inspection.

If I were you I'd try running on just the stock FPR with the bypass tied open, see what that does.

Bro..that's some of the best advice I've gotten on this subject posted on 4xdifferent forums!!!....I never thought about the plugs!!!...that could explain why one passed and the other is in that"Not Ready"mode...the O2 that was no good leaned out...it's running right now but, never knew it's been running lean for 2 years!!!....as far as the FPR...yeah another guy said he had the same prob.with a similar car..went to the emissions 7xtimes then went back to a stock FPR and it passed....so the VAFC is unplugged and the stock FPR is on...plan to put the stock plugs on tom....yes there's two O2's one post one pre-cat....one more thing...im sure your familianr with the Jackson SC so what exactly do you mean to zip-tie the blower bypass wide open???...where's that at???throttle body??
