Just looking to see if anyone has any leads on the best place to purchase a cell phone when you're out of contract.

I don't want a cutting edge cell phone or anything pricey, its just my current phone drops or cuts out of 90% of my phone calls and I need a reliable phone for work. I was thinking about picking up a razor even though I had one when they first came out and it was a pos, I've heard good things since they upgraded the software.

My current phone is a hacked slivr that I traded my LG for but unfortunately this phone is just complete garbage.

I want a small, simple phone that I can easily carry in my pocket.

I'm still in contract with Cingular but I'm unsure if I'll be signing a second contract with them, so I don't want to purchase a new phone through Cingular and have my contract extended two years. I'm looking, specifically, for a phone that doesn't have a contract or $200 bill associated with it - looking to spend at most $150.

ebay and craigslist

so u wanting a pre-paid one?

Sorry for the confusion.

No prepaid.

I already have a contract, I just need the phone itself.

I figured my best outlet would be ebay, but didn't know if there were any other online sites like Woot : One Day, One Deal that would be a good place to look for phones.

There are so many different phones and ebay sellers that its a daunting task to pick a good phone, thats a decent deal.

Hit up your local Cincinnati Bell. They always have a good selection and most of their phones are prepaid.

Never heard of Cincinn bell. They might be a local carrier to the Cincinnati metro area. Kind of like Centennial Wireless is here.

search ebay, i know there is at least one HUGE electronics seller that sells tons of phones

i would stick with the big companies with a good reputation
at least you can trust them when they say which network it will work on

you can also buy from the company you have a contract with
it might be a bit more $$$ but its guaranteed to work on your network.

My deal is that a phone without a contract jumps from $50 to $400.

I guess I'm stuck with going online and finding a Motorola razor thats listed as a Cingular phone or unlocked and paying whatever price tag is attached.

ah, so you already have a contract? or had one and don't want to renew it?
razr's are kind of shitty
my friend went through 3 and now switched to a pebble
watch out for the "static"
it won't matter if you have 100% reception/signal
razrs develop a weird static that can't be fixed, and motorola will not warranty agaisnt
search a bit more before you decide on that phone

i still have a digital phone
they can shove that GSM up their ass
(now where did i put my foil hat)

Yeah I have a contract, I just don't want to renew.

I'm a different cell than I was when I originally signed up. The original was a motorola v550 and got great service but was beat. Now I'm on a slivr that constantly drops calls.

I haven't heard much of the pebel but I wasn't sure if I could get it for cingular.

I'm just trying to bite the bullet and buy the phone now because I'm going to need it for work. I've just been too cheap, since I've been trying to be tight on money as I finished up last semester without a job.

Dude. Stay away from motorola. They fucking suck ass. I have only had motorola's and they're pos dog shit. I'm on my 5th razr, with the new program, and it sucks big time.

Samsung seems to be the best bet right now.

So what phone are you suggesting then?

I want lightweight and durable, good battery live, good reception, and the ability to send text messages/receive picture messages.

Not complicated at all.

I see samsung has some triband phone that looks decent, but its only triband and not quadband

eBay: NEW UNLOCKED SAMSUNG E635 635 T-MOBILE CINGULAR CAMERA (item 150120413967 end time May-17-07 16:32:36 PDT)

That looks alright but its Triband, and it isn't bluetooth enabled. I don't have one, but I think I'd like to get a bluetooth enabled phone so I can use the headset while driving or laying down or at the house.

After looking through ebay, now I'm thinking a Samsung D900 (ideally), D807, or DB500 or Sony w810i or w600i (walkman phones).

Anyone have any experience?

D807 for the win.

I almost bought one, but put it towards debt a couple weeks ago.

I'm holding out for an iphone, and I'm too buying it out of contract. Contracts FTL.

Bah looks as if the D807 is costing me $200. Not really looking to spend that on a phone right now. As is it looks like a D500 is going to run me $140 and then another $25 for a bluetooth headset.
