Is no power stering a big differance? I havnt drove a car without it so i dont know. But im thinking about removing mine before i finish my swap. So any ideas or input would be great. thanks

hahaha there is a huge difference between the cars that don't come with it and the cars that have it then it's removed.

do you go to the gym? if you do, you wont need to if you remove the power steering. you will hate life if you remove it. there is no reason at all to remove the power steering .
 
I have no power steering (from the factory) and I actually prefer it over my fiance's and my parents vehicles with factory power steering. It seems that with the power steering it gets sloppy.
 
To me, when moving there isn't much too much of a difference except for feel when taking corners. When still(like turning during parallel parking), the difference is very noticeable.
 
I agree, the only time I regret not having power steering is when my car isn't moving at all. Even at a very slow roll it isn't that bad.
 
i've driven my mirage with and without power steering... the steering is actually better with the belt on. more responsive as well.
 
Well what kind of car are you taking the power steering out of? I feel that at high speeds i enjoy no power steering cause i get a better feel of the road, but when parking it is not so easy.
 
I have never had power steering in my civic but i have driven my dads accord, and i like the feel of my car better. i can feel better in the corners and judge if im pushing too far or not.. etc.. parking sucks tho lol

you guys are retarded. he's asking about taking ps off of a car that came with it. if you have ever driven a car that came with it from the factory, then had it removed, then you can comment on it. but there is a huge difference between having ps and a car that doesn't have it from the factory.

don't remove it, it will be a bitch to drive. if it didn't have it from the factory, then it doesn't matter.

if you have ever had a car that has ps and it runs out of ps fluid, you will know what i mean. damn noobs.

unless you go to the gym, plan on having a shoulder reconstruction or are very stupid or have the idea that taking out the ps will make you drift better or some other ricey idea leave it in....

leave it in...there are upsides and downsides....but if you take it out you WILL regret it...

Ok first off name calling is lame.

Second off I am pretty sure there is a conversion out there to switch to a non power steering rack isn't there. If that is the case then I do not recall reading anywhere in his original post that we was going to just snip the power steering belt and call it a day. He was asking if he should switch to non power steering and I was simply stating my opinion on having a from the factory car with no power steering.
 
Non-PS isn't that hard to drive. I have a Accord that comes with power steering, and my sister too(mine is a 90 Coupe, her's is a 91 Sedan). Her car ran out of fluid one day, due to a leak, and there wasn't a huge difference when moving. She had no problem driving it either like that; this is a 5'-ish tall 100lb(?) girl here.

I have both here:
both of my old CRXs and my Civic is non-PS, and my Accord is PS. For racing or weekend driving, non-PS is fine. For DD, I'd take PS simply because it's less of a hassle, especially during parking.
 
driven in australia?

i know driving with no ps isnt that bad but fuck it takes it out on crook arms....

i was driving for a while with cars that had ps but when i started driving my car jesus christ strike me down that shoulder reconstruction almost got undone!

just keep the ps...or get rid of it....why not drive with it on first and if you dont like it remove the bitch or respray the engine bay or some shit

sounds to me like he's just removing the ps pump and pulleys. so yeah, he is just calling it a day.

technically, he could swap the whole rack and pinion with a non ps version. but it would be a pain in the ass and cost a lot of money and if he is posting on HS he probably can't do it on his own.

if you remove it, you will sacrifice the integrity and steering response of the handling and suspension. go ahead and do it, it will just be less enjoyable to drive.

I still didn't get a response as to why he wants to do it.
 
had a powersteering pump go out on me in an 87 Cutlass.. my god was the steering wheel hard to turn..
 
...A rack swap is not hard at all. Only problem is getting a alignment afterwards.
 
you would be alrite with no power steering man its not hard at all to drive it takes a lil getn use to but its no big deal i jus removed mine about two months ago and i dont even think about it ne more unless im not moving then its a lil hard but other than that all good
 
One reason is because i just got my engine back and im getting ready to put it in, so friends where telling me i didnt need it. I figured i would get more of a response on HS then from a few friends. Another is because the PS cooling rack is right in the way of where i need to put my FMIC So if i keep the ps, i need to move the rack up or down, dont think it matters. Also, if i wanted to remove the PS and convert it to a factory non-ps car, i could do it. Ive been working on cars since i was about 7 with the old pop. So now that i have a popular vote on NOT removing it, i prolly wont. Now i just need to know where the hell to put the PS rack.
