What do you have/use?

I just ordered a Bully Locks 5 foot 6 inch chain w/ bike lock and the "reminder" bungee cord thing. I also need to order a bike cover for it too... hmmm i should of done that at the same time... :p The chain will, most likely, only be used when locking it up at my house or if i know im going to be away from it for a few hours someplace else. When im away from the house ill just bring the disc lock w/me, since the chain is about 10 fucking lbs.

Anyways, what do you guys have and use?

you could loosen what ever it is holding the front wheel on so when they take off the front wheel falls off and they get fucked up.. hahaha... (just gotta remember to tighten them back before riding)
 
Ask Wil, there ain't shit you can do.

Fork lock and don't be stupid (Don't go into bad areas). Don't turn your back on it. Alarms are nice, but all they do is make noise, and it's not hard at all to cut the power to them (I mean, it's right in the open). I have a garage, which means one thing: I have more shit for them to steal in one place, in the privacy of a closed door. There is no safety from theives.
 
^^ haha. Thats what the kid im buying the bike from said. For the 3-4 years he's owned it, he never bought a lock. His two previous addresses he just left it in front of the house or in the unlocked garage, now its just in his carport unlocked. Im not really too surprised it hasnt been stolen, crime in Burlington is amazingly LOW.
 
my bike is under a cover under my back porch in my backyard.
 
The new place im moving into has a small garage in the back.. but the entrance to the driveway is STUPID steep and dirt... I may just lock it up to the long hand rail leading to the entrance and cover it there...
 
I've had 2 bikes stolen. The first one (my R6 a year and a half ago) had an alarm and a bike lock on it. It still got stolen.

There is absolutely nothing you can do short of putting your bike either in a garage or inside your house/apartment that will prevent bike theft. If someone's eyeing your bike to try and jack it, they're going to see that you've got a chain and bring some bolt cutters. A bike lock doesn't matter at all, because bikes are rarely (if ever) hotwired and ridden away when they're stolen. Most of the time it's a group of guys with either a truck or a van, and they just get out, pick up the bike, toss it in the back, and are gone...and all that happens in under a minute. A chain would just add another 3 seconds for them to cut the chain.

And then there's the alarm possibility, which is the exact same for bikes as cars. What do you do when you hear someone's car alarm going off? Nothing. Noone goes running towards the alarm with justice in each hand ready to fight off evil. Even if you hear your alarm going off, you've got MAYBE 30 seconds to get outside before it's too late, and even then what are you going to do to a group of guys who are quite possibly armed? If you DO go with an alarm, the best thing to have would be one of those paging alarm systems, and even then all that's good for is letting you know 'hey, your shit just got stolen'.

If you're still persistent about leaving it outside, the hands-down best thing to do is to get LoJack...and even that isn't 100% guaranteed to get your shit back.


Basically it comes down to 'if you don't want to get your bike stolen, park it inside'. Period.

I don't have a lock, or a chain, or an alarm, or LoJack for the 636. All that is just more money you're going to lose if/when your bike gets stolen. I park it in my garage the SECOND that I get home, even if I'm only going to be there for a few minutes.

atleast they emailed me letting me know, I've ordered things from other online stores and they dont even email you to let you know, they just dont process tha tpart of the order. Lame.

i hope you use it as a necklace, it wont stop your bike from getting stolen.

Well the second lock was out of stock, so i just cancelled the order. And i did take out a policy on the bike that includes theft coverage and all the mumbo jumbo.

Keep receipts of the bike stuff. When it goes, Insurance companies HATE covering bikes.

they hate covering theft. state farm is really good with covering accidents. they will pay for everything and don't even need receipts. my old roommate did this with his helmet. told them he had an arai and some race pants when he wrecked. they didn't even check.
 
My buddy's GSXR600 was just stolen out of his garage no lock or alarm but they got into his locked parking garage at his apartment building. His room mate got home at 11pm and said the bike was still there then he usually gets off work at 11:30pm but he was working overtime and when he got home at 2am his bike was not there. All you can do is pray it doesn't get stolen.
