Hey Can anyone point out the laws for airbags in virginia , seems I failed state inspection for having an aftermarket steering wheel . Guy said for 1500 he could get it straight , I said shit !!!! So I have been looking and looking for the airbag laws and cant find shit in virginia , heres the requirement in va to get inspected.


REQUIRED OFFICIAL INSPECTION PROCEDURE
Each inspection consists of the following items – for further details consult the "Official Inspection Manual":
1. - REMOVE OLD INSPECTION STICKER.
2. - DRIVE VEHICLE INTO INSPECTION LANE.
3. - INSPECT BRAKES FOR:
  • <LI class=MsoNormal style="mso-margin-top-alt: auto; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto; mso-list: l16 level1 lfo1; tab-stops: list .5in">Worn, damaged or missing parts. <LI class=MsoNormal style="mso-margin-top-alt: auto; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto; mso-list: l16 level1 lfo1; tab-stops: list .5in">Worn, contaminated or defective linings or drums. <LI class=MsoNormal style="mso-margin-top-alt: auto; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto; mso-list: l16 level1 lfo1; tab-stops: list .5in">Leaks in system, proper fluid level.
  • Worn, contaminated or defective disc pads or discs.
    (NOTE: A minimum of two wheels and drums must be removed from each vehicle at the time of inspection. Consult the official inspection manual for exceptions.)
4. - INSPECT PARKING BRAKE FOR:
  • <LI class=MsoNormal style="mso-margin-top-alt: auto; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto; mso-list: l18 level1 lfo2; tab-stops: list .5in">Broken or missing parts. <LI class=MsoNormal style="mso-margin-top-alt: auto; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto; mso-list: l18 level1 lfo2; tab-stops: list .5in">Proper adjustment.
  • Standard factory equipment or equivalent.
5. - INSPECT HEADLIGHTS FOR:
  • <LI class=MsoNormal style="mso-margin-top-alt: auto; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto; mso-list: l22 level1 lfo3; tab-stops: list .5in">Approved type, aim, and output. <LI class=MsoNormal style="mso-margin-top-alt: auto; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto; mso-list: l22 level1 lfo3; tab-stops: list .5in">Condition of lamp, wiring and switch.
  • Beam indicator.
6. - INSPECT OTHER LIGHTS FOR:
  • <LI class=MsoNormal style="mso-margin-top-alt: auto; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto; mso-list: l21 level1 lfo4; tab-stops: list .5in">Approved type, proper bulbs, condition of lenses, wiring and switch. <LI class=MsoNormal style="mso-margin-top-alt: auto; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto; mso-list: l21 level1 lfo4; tab-stops: list .5in">Aim of fog and driving lamps.
  • Illumination of all lamps, lens color, and condition of lens.
    (NOTE: Every vehicle must have a rear lamp showing a red light to the rear, a white light illuminating the rear license plate; vehicles over 7 feet wide or extending 4 inches or more beyond the front fender extremes must be equipped with approved clearance lamps and reflex reflectors. Count load in measuring.)
7. – INSPECT SIGNAL DEVICE FOR:
  • <LI class=MsoNormal style="mso-margin-top-alt: auto; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto; mso-list: l7 level1 lfo5; tab-stops: list .5in">Approved type, proper bulbs, condition of lenses, wiring and switch. <LI class=MsoNormal style="mso-margin-top-alt: auto; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto; mso-list: l7 level1 lfo5; tab-stops: list .5in">Correct indications and tell-tale (visual or audible).
  • Illumination of all lamps, lens color, and condition of lens.
8. – INSPECT STEERING & SUSPENSION FOR: (Jack up front end as shown in Manual)
  • <LI class=MsoNormal style="mso-margin-top-alt: auto; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto; mso-list: l29 level1 lfo6; tab-stops: list .5in">Wear in bushings, kingpins, ball joints, wheel bearings, tie rod ends. <LI class=MsoNormal style="mso-margin-top-alt: auto; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto; mso-list: l29 level1 lfo6; tab-stops: list .5in">Looseness of gear box on frame, condition of drag link and steering arm. <LI class=MsoNormal style="mso-margin-top-alt: auto; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto; mso-list: l29 level1 lfo6; tab-stops: list .5in">Play in steering wheel. <LI class=MsoNormal style="mso-margin-top-alt: auto; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto; mso-list: l29 level1 lfo6; tab-stops: list .5in">Wheel alignment and axle alignment. <LI class=MsoNormal style="mso-margin-top-alt: auto; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto; mso-list: l29 level1 lfo6; tab-stops: list .5in">Broken spring leaves, and worn shackles. <LI class=MsoNormal style="mso-margin-top-alt: auto; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto; mso-list: l29 level1 lfo6; tab-stops: list .5in">Shock absorbers. <LI class=MsoNormal style="mso-margin-top-alt: auto; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto; mso-list: l29 level1 lfo6; tab-stops: list .5in">Broken frame. <LI class=MsoNormal style="mso-margin-top-alt: auto; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto; mso-list: l29 level1 lfo6; tab-stops: list .5in">Broken or missing engine mounts.
  • Lift blocks.
9. – INSPECT TIRES, WHEELS & RIMS FOR:
  • <LI class=MsoNormal style="mso-margin-top-alt: auto; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto; mso-list: l30 level1 lfo7; tab-stops: list .5in">Condition of tires including tread depth. <LI class=MsoNormal style="mso-margin-top-alt: auto; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto; mso-list: l30 level1 lfo7; tab-stops: list .5in">Mixing radials and bias ply tires.
  • Wheels that are cracked or damaged so as to affect safe operation.
10. – INSPECT MIRROR FOR:
  • <LI class=MsoNormal style="mso-margin-top-alt: auto; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto; mso-list: l19 level1 lfo8; tab-stops: list .5in">Rigidity of mounting. <LI class=MsoNormal style="mso-margin-top-alt: auto; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto; mso-list: l19 level1 lfo8; tab-stops: list .5in">Condition of reflecting surface.
  • View of road to rear (Truck mirrors must extend at least halfway beyond edge of body) – (Visibility 200 feet to rear).
11. – INSPECT HORN FOR:
  • <LI class=MsoNormal style="mso-margin-top-alt: auto; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto; mso-list: l6 level1 lfo9; tab-stops: list .5in">Electrical connections, mounting and horn button.
  • Emits sound audible for a minimum of 200 feet.
12. – INSPECT WINDSHIELD AND OTHER GLASS FOR:
  • <LI class=MsoNormal style="mso-margin-top-alt: auto; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto; mso-list: l26 level1 lfo10; tab-stops: list .5in">Approved type safety glass. <LI class=MsoNormal style="mso-margin-top-alt: auto; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto; mso-list: l26 level1 lfo10; tab-stops: list .5in">Cloudiness, distortion or other obstruction to vision. <LI class=MsoNormal style="mso-margin-top-alt: auto; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto; mso-list: l26 level1 lfo10; tab-stops: list .5in">Cracked, scratched or broken glass. <LI class=MsoNormal style="mso-margin-top-alt: auto; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto; mso-list: l26 level1 lfo10; tab-stops: list .5in">Stickers. ALL UNAUTHORIZED STICKERS MUST BE REMOVED. <LI class=MsoNormal style="mso-margin-top-alt: auto; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto; mso-list: l26 level1 lfo10; tab-stops: list .5in">Sunshading material attached to the windshield to ensure it does not extend more than 3 inches downward from the top of windshield, unless authorized by Medical Waiver Certificate.
  • Operation of left front door glass.
13. – INSPECT WINDSHIELD WIPER/DEFROSTER FOR:
  • <LI class=MsoNormal style="mso-margin-top-alt: auto; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto; mso-list: l1 level1 lfo11; tab-stops: list .5in">Operating condition.
  • Condition of blade.
14. – INSPECT EXHAUST SYSTEM FOR:
  • <LI class=MsoNormal style="mso-margin-top-alt: auto; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto; mso-list: l20 level1 lfo12; tab-stops: list .5in">Exhaust line-manifold, gaskets, pipes, mufflers, connections, etc.
  • Leakage of gases at any point from motor to point discharged from system.
15. – INSPECT LICENSE TAGS FOR:
  • Illumination of rear plate.
16. – INSPECT HOOD AND AREA UNDER THE HOOD FOR:
  • <LI class=MsoNormal style="mso-margin-top-alt: auto; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto; mso-list: l13 level1 lfo14; tab-stops: list .5in">Operating condition of hood latch. <LI class=MsoNormal style="mso-margin-top-alt: auto; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto; mso-list: l13 level1 lfo14; tab-stops: list .5in">Presence of emissions system -Evidence that any essential parts have been removed, rendered inoperative or disconnected. <LI class=MsoNormal style="mso-margin-top-alt: auto; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto; mso-list: l13 level1 lfo14; tab-stops: list .5in">Fluid levels that are below the proper level
    1. Brake fluid.
    2. Power steering fluid.
  • Power steering belt - proper tension, wear, or absence.
17. – INSPECT AIR POLLUTION CONTROL SYSTEM (1973 and Subsequent Models) FOR:
  • <LI class=MsoNormal style="mso-margin-top-alt: auto; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto; mso-list: l8 level1 lfo15; tab-stops: list .5in">Installation.
  • Operation.
    (NOTE: This includes the catalytic converter and the fuel tank filler pipe.)
18. – INSPECT DRIVER’S SEAT FOR:
  • <LI class=MsoNormal style="mso-margin-top-alt: auto; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto; mso-list: l12 level1 lfo16; tab-stops: list .5in">Anchorage. <LI class=MsoNormal style="mso-margin-top-alt: auto; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto; mso-list: l12 level1 lfo16; tab-stops: list .5in">Location.
  • Condition.
19. – INSPECT SEAT BELTS FOR:
  • <LI class=MsoNormal style="mso-margin-top-alt: auto; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto; mso-list: l27 level1 lfo17; tab-stops: list .5in">Approved type.
  • Installation.
20. – INSPECT DOORS AT THE RIGHT & LEFT SIDE OF THE DRIVER’S SEAT FOR:
  • <LI class=MsoNormal style="mso-margin-top-alt: auto; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto; mso-list: l25 level1 lfo18; tab-stops: list .5in">Handle or opening device which will permit the opening of the door from the outside and inside of the vehicle.
  • Latching system which will hold door in its proper closed position.
21. – INSPECT FUEL SYSTEM FOR:
  • <LI class=MsoNormal style="mso-margin-top-alt: auto; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto; mso-list: l14 level1 lfo19; tab-stops: list .5in">Any part that is not securely fastened. <LI class=MsoNormal style="mso-margin-top-alt: auto; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto; mso-list: l14 level1 lfo19; tab-stops: list .5in">Liquid fuel leakage.
  • Fuel tank filler cap for presence.
22. – INSPECT FLOOR PAN FOR:
(a) Holes which allow exhaust gases to enter occupant compartment.
(b) Conditions which create a hazard to the occupants.

23. – ISSUE STICKER:
(a) If approved, place approval sticker on the vehicle, and give pink copy of certificate to operator.
(b) ALL DEFECTS MUST BE CORRECTED AND THE VEHICLE REINSPECTED WITHIN 15 DAYS.

THE DRIVER MAY BE IN JEOPARDY OF RECEIVING A SUMMONS FOR ANY DEFECT STILL
PRESENT ANY TIME THE VEHICLE IS OPERATED ON THE HIGHWAY.
(NOTE: The validity period of the rejection sticker shall include fifteen (15) days in addition to the day of the inspection.)

if its part of the OEM safety equipment that comes with the car, it HAS to be on the car for inspection. im sure you could find a steering wheel for your car at a junkyard that still has the airbag intact....

btw, i used to live in Virginia. another option is to ask around for a "good" inspection place. some of your local tuner shops may help you out...
 
Yeah I alredy lined up 2 airbags 1 steering wheel and clock spring for 456.00 at woodfin honda. My car is so low it wont get on the car lift so no one will touch it , I paid 129 for alignment. It has to be a roll on lift .
 
I would just put the steering wheel with the airbag on. Its not like there going to drive your car into a wall and test it.
 
As long as your dash isn't throwing any error codes you should be ok with just slapping the wheel on.

Maryland wont pass you if your car is too low. The headlights need to be at a certain level. I had that issue with my slammed A4.

Well I was told that the light needs to work . When the car cuts on it lights up and goes away . Since there is no airbags , Light stays on. I was thinking of poping the bulb until I was told that. If there is no passenger airbag then the light will stay on . I dont have a check engine light . Just the SRS .

My car was lowered a little over 3 inches and they dont knock me for being to low to pass. Just no one touches it because they cant get it on the lift . To do so . You have to jack up each end and then slide the lifts under the car. No one has roll ons around here. A few do but they wont touch my car. I have to pay out the ass for anyone to work on my car. Just because its lowered. Like a 69.99 alignment went to 129.99 . And I had a 300.00 Camber kit on there . I am soo tired of crooked ass mechanics. I feel raped after everytime I deal with them . I like to do mst the work myself but somethings you just gotta use em . And they know that. Thats why they have you by the balls.

Or hit ebay or a junk yard or something.. I wonder if a civic or prelude wheel would bolt up? Doesnt have to match the car, right?
 
I found everything I need at Woodfin Honda . 456.00 for everthing

Is this a bad price . I thought it was pretty good , compared to Dealer for 900. Thats shit one airbag . I cut the phone off at that point.

Already asked everyone I know to use theres for the day . Not an option.

I just need something that would work for the splines. and the connections to mate up . It could be a Ford steering wheel and as long it made the horn work and make the srs light go away . Then I would pass. But theres still the problem of the passenger side airbag

While you can turn the passenger airbag on and off, they might require you to turn it on to pass inspection, again that's a factory safety feature. Maybe they wont... but maybe they will.

Also how is a mechanic a crooked ass guy when he has to go way out of his way to work on your car? on top of that the risk of damaging things on your car are much higher. So not only does he have to do more work (extra time) but he has to take on more risk.

You're lucky, I know some mechanics that would look at your car and say sorry I wont touch it.

If you're pissed about having to pay 500 for a new wheel, and $129 to get the alignment done, then WAHHHHHH go buy a stock car.

There's many people in maryland who pay $500-1000 to get their cars inspected.
Part of buying a modded car is knowing there's extra cost in owning the car.
