I am gettin a 89 crx that has no motor. I have a b18a1 lying around that i am thinking about slappin in, but I want something with some more power, like a b20 or something along the lines of that. Any suggestions?

H22 is overkill....

it really depends on what the car will be used for.....

racing on track h22 definate

street daily/race d series is nice

if you really want some full details just go on redpepperracing.com and ask around there but do some reading first....(youll have a day or 2 to do so)

p.s pics would be nice

why is the h22 over kill , and why would you not want it for every day use?

The B18 will be fine.

The H22 is very heavy and will kill the handling of your car. But it'll be fast as hell in straight lines.

ok here are a few reasons.....

We drive Ew's(i dont know about you) but h22's and k series have had a bad rep of not to be very kind to our cars to have high care......so therefore lots of replacement engine and general parts will need to be replaced....

a d series would be nice and would run pretty well and if you turbo it will run well for street and track without all the replacements...

Hey a h22 or even a k id rock....but i wouldnt even consider it without checking my car 100% for rust and having some spares.......but for track only

id rock a b or even a d in mine without a question due to the power to weight ratio's the car would be able to perform like a h22...

you know less weight=easier to push forward

are you planning boost or N/A? If your going boost i think b20/vtec would be sick. If your N/A i would do a b18c or an H22 Both are extremely good motors although i lean a little bit more towards the b series engines

H22 if you don't mind doing some "massaging" of the engine bay with a sledgehammer. You also won't stand a chance of keeping AC or PS. I'm thinking of throwing one into a CRX myself for kicks...

Either that or "just beating the shit out of it in key places with a really bigass hammer" if you want to expand the "massaging" word to its true meaning.

I have a b18a1 and a freshly rebuilt ford probe turbo, I want to get everything to build a turbo monster, but at the moment I am trying to piece together the swap, as i only have the crx shell, b18a1 block and head, and the turbo. If anyone has turbo manifold or the accesories such as starter, alternator, tranny, ect. I might be interested if its a decent price. Thanks

does the "messaging " do any damage to the car ?

If the motor is stock, maintenance would be the same as if the engine was in the original car.

His car is a EF btw(1989).

The H22A isn't that much heavier than a B-swap(somewhere around 50-70lbs IIRC, most of the weight difference coming from the transmission). Both H and B are at least 100lbs heavier than the stock D.

The D will be able to turn faster, but the bigger engines will propel it forward much faster(The weight increases, but so does the power).

Depends on how you define "damage". The beam/frame is dented with the hammer and once that happens, it's irreversible unless you cut and weld. The frame is still straight and aligned though

No- you're just bending some metal back so you have room for pulleys and other components. Frame rail denting is pretty standard with most Honda engine swaps, especially into the smaller engine bays.

I recall the H22 not being more than 50 pounds heavier than any variant of a b18.

Are any of you guys framiliar with the b20 swap with it think a b16 or b18 head on it , any specs if possible

B20/VTEC. Pretty common and decent. Only thing is you're stuck with using aftermarket pistons to increase compression since they're bigger than the other B's..

civic h22a are front heavy like he said and suck in turns and is a rocket on the srtaight i was in one

I've also driven one and IMO it handled decent(JDM H22A in a 94 Si with Skunk2 coilovers). Sure it wasn't a autocross ninja but it was far from "suck". It turned just as well as my cousin's D16Z6 93 EX with Neuspeed springs.

are you talking about a b20 block with a b18 head ?, And do you know the H/p and tourque rpm specs on it ?
