cold air vs short ram

on average how much more hp and tork does a cold air intake make ove a short ram intake
 
the reason i ask im wonting to save about 100 bucks, if the gain isnt that much ill just go with a short ram,
 
well i have a few other cars so on this one my mods will be, cai or short ram, race header, exhaust, k-pro. and thats it

Yes i would agree , I just replaced a injen short ram 3 " intake with a new AEM Hyrbrid CAI and didnt notice any gains except on top end slightly , In fact the AEM made me feel as if i lost some direct throttle response just like blanco expalined in a few posts up :D

Not to step on you , I have always been told that a short ram intake doesnt do much but suck in hot air from the engine. Vs Cold air intake taking air from the front lower end of the car. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Before the turbo I had a cold air intake , Went right in front of the passenger side tire. I noticed some difference vs. stock. Never went with the short ram , so couldnt tell you the difference.

. . IMHO cold air is a bad idea for a daily driver, its set in just the right position to suck up water.

I fully agree with that , Dont think about driving in the rain , Hit a deep puddle and my car stalled and wouldnt start again , had to push it out , got soaken wet and had to buy a new filter after every rain.
 
IMO just go with the short ram. CAI isn't worth the potential headaches with the rain and all. Sure there are bypass and splash shields, but the power diffrence is nominal and the $$$ diffrence is quite noticable.

Once you install the bypass valve, you negate any benefits of a CAI.
 
Gotta take what AEM says with a grain of salt. They are the one selling the produtcs and I'm sure that the profit margin is much grater on a CAI. IMO there oppion is biassed
