My porch has siding all along it, white... sort of. It's dented and looks like shit. I think this is going to be my first exterior improvement purchase.

I'm just talking about the part below the pillars, and provide the 'hiding spot' on the porch, I want to replace that with something durable. Would the same type of siding be the best bet?

Or give me some ideas on what I could do. I'd just paint the things, but they look like shit when you're standing right next to them.

And yes, eventually the house will get painted another color.

I already switched out the mailbox, and I'm going to go look for new light fixtures in the next few months.

Yeah alum. siding sucks because it gets dinged up and looks like shit.
I'd get vinyl siding if you want cheap, but make sure it's the seamless vinyl, because all the breaks in the siding also look shitty.

If it were me, I'd tear that shit out and make a rail with open slats to open it up. having that wide ass rail out front takes up a lot of space on your porch.

If it was my house , I would replace it with vinyl siding . Not to expensive , easy to install . and wont dent ..lol Plus its easy to maintain .

Depending on how fat the pockets are . you might want to check out Vinyl railling or steel railling , Which to do your lil porch would cost between 1500-2000 .

werd.. put a fence/railing instead.. because you can still close it in with that.

I'm a sider.

NorthWest Siding Inc is my dad's website(yeah it sucks).

I hate vinyl. I won't work with it. It looks like dog shit and personally you can see the bows and looseness that really bothers me.

If you want to go cheap and maintenance free, hardy is a good choice, but with the bevil in the background. it'd be hard to match. Its a toss up on this. I'm all about going all out and doing it right the first time. I'd do tight knot cedar bevel with clear corners and bands. I'd pre-prime it the first time, then puddy all my holes.

I'm half and half on this opinion. It would open it up and make it a little more pleasing, but then I have no place to hide the stuff I have sitting there. I know I know, I could take it all inside but that's just too much work. I like being able to fold my lawn chairs down and hide them in, various tools, my weights, snow shovel... etc. I'm on a state highway that have tons of kids wandering past the house.

They also make great tables when you're sitting out on the porch eating while watching the traffic go by.

I'll have to get some ideas from other houses too.

Thanks for the suggestions all. I might be asking you more specifics later, Slammed.

First thing that porch needs, a hammok. A open rail along the front of the porch... ehhhhhhh i dont think it look that good. Def a rail for the stairs tho lol.

why bother painting it? hate the color?

They say geniouses pick green. Well, I'm not a genious... so yes, I hate the color. lol

My mom gave me a single person hammock, I need to get bigger hooks then I can hang it up.

the house is vinyl or alum siding right?
painted siding = more maintenance

I don't know. I asked my mom, it's the same siding as they have and they have had their house painted for 10 years with no problems.

I'd be willing to bet that if you pull that siding off, you'll find real wood underneath. And brick pillar bases. Rip it off, and restore whats under there. Wood/Brick ftw.

The siding had to go up for a reason... I'm not about to spend 10k to restore an 80 year old exterior fascia for the nostalgic 'past' look. lol
