so anyone here know much about boating and electric trolling motors?

my friend lives on a private lake/pond
we are under the impression that you cannot have gas powered motors
we have a 12 ft jon boat and are looking to get a trolling motor

question
what would be better
1 55lb thrust motor
or 2 30 lb thrust motors?

dicks has the 55lb on sale, plus a rebate
we're looking at about 300 bucks for a minn kota 55lb endura motor with battery

main purpose = to cruise around on the lake and drink

1 55. It'll eat less battery power than 2 30's. And you wont have to worry about linking them, etc. a 55 pound will pull a 12 foot john boat around with ease.

fishing might come later on
all my fishing goods are at my old mans house
this weekend is gonna be dedicated to riding in a boat and getting drunk

i need to get a fishing permit before i bring a pole
i'm not getting banged out for fishing with no permit

we went out last weekend for a couple hours with our friends fathers 12 or 14 foot v boat with a 46 lb minn kota and 3 people
it was a good time
so hopefully 2 people and a 55 will be a bit faster

I would suggest u go with the single more powerful 1

Like phyregod suggested it will eat less battery, but also, the power difference is negligeable, and u may end up being even slower because of the weight/drag that the additional motor would bring.

I had a 65 pound on my bass boat. (fully geared, 17 foot) and it never ran out of power. Get one of those yellow maxx everlast marine batteries from wal-mart. Those things are beasts.

During a single fishing trip I'd troll around the shores 2-3 hours with no problem, and no charging. It was a separate battery from the rest of the boat.

And, spend the extra few bucks on the foot control! Well worth it when fishing!

so saturday was a fun filled boating day
we went to dicks on friday and scored the 55lb motor, a couple poles, some lures/hooks and a couple swivel seats
then to walmart to get a couple batteries

day went well...
caught a pickrel
broke the shear pin in the motor
but other than that it was a good trip
