What's up guys, I have some questions that I need answers to pretty quick.

I have an 86' civic that is in impecable condition but, it has been neglected in the engine car department. Now, I have a 91' Cvc EX with the original block and a V-TEC D16Y8 head on it and I was wanting to know if it would be too much of a hassle to swap the motor out or should I just stick with what I got and try to fix it.
I know that the tranny from the EW will not bolt onto the D but, I can easily get my hands on a trans from and CRX. I dont want to go with a ZC or a B-series, and tthe reason is that I don't have either one of these and I don't have a lot of money.
If there is anyone that can give me some insight as to what I am trying to accomplish I would really appreciate it.
I would also need to know if I need anything else extra; such as: axles, hub assemblies, tranny linkage, or any certain electrical connectors that would need to be spliced it would really help me out.

So if ya'll could scratch your heads and give me a helping hand, or just wish me luck, I would really appreciate the help.

P.S.- I will be putting pics of the entire event from begining to end up for all to see. But, it's going to be at least a month or until the current motor gives out.

Mate i wish you the best of luck....

i myself do not know much about how the swap would go about but someone here might....ill look around and see if anyone i know has some info for it...

i myself own a 86 with problems lol....

i hope this project goes through....

lol p.s (know of any conversions for a 88-91 hood for a 86 hatchback lol) :p

I don't believe there is such a swap, But it would be interesting.

Thanks for trying to help me out. I have the car sitting at my stepdads carlot right now. The comp got so bad that I could'nt drive it anymore, without working a brake and gas at the same time so it's just chillin right now.

If you find any info send It my way, andif I can find any I make sure to hit you up with it.

well a mate and i were talking about this amoungst ourselves the other day....

and well he concluded that if you were going to do this swap it would
A) be very very custom
B) very powerfull but very heavy for the car
C) we couldnt find anything (and he is a mechanic)
D) VERY COOL!^_^
E) considered a rebuild of the current engine?

if i may suggest....if u like the look of the car i suggest just go for something like a b16....(dont go vtec if your going to be racing) cuz vtec is reliable but when u race it well yeah just forget about vtec....

i personally love this idea and flirted with it for about 3 hours after a few too many coronaz....but decided not to...:(

but i say go call some mechanics and ask some questions go read some stats for the engines and sizes and size of the different engine bays (may be helpfull for near future swaps) ill have a look around for u to see if i can find some stats (not to sure but ill look) or ask ma friend for ya (when he gets back from holidays)

PEACE!

i would suggest a d16a1 swap. DOHC engine. rated for about 115hp (more than a civic). i havent swapped my engine over yet, but i have heard good reviews about the swap. check out Red Pepper Racing <<good source for all 3g civic/1g crx information

Unless you have the transmission to keep it in vtec the entire time your going to have jumpy power delivery. That surge that is felt when vtec kicks in is the reason you dont really want it for racing. You want to smoothest power delivery possible to keep the drive as smooth as possible.

Vtec isn't good for racing? It's faster than non-vtec isn't it so why?

vtec is good for racing buuuuuut.....

vtec is faster than n/a depending on the build but vtec tends to be damaged from overuse (hence why most street racers say vtec is terrible) other then that if your into fixing vtec on a constant basis then go for vtec
