Newb Engine Swapper
Hey everyone.. Well i'm pertty new to hondas and this will be my first ever engine swap so I expect to run into some problems. I picked up a 94 Civic DX coupe with a blown block. Body was great for a shell so i'm looking for something to drop in to get a little experience on hondas and mabye turbo up. I have some experience working on older cars with my father who is a retired mechanic. I'v been reading around for a few months on hondas and common swaps and i'd like to grab a b18c type r or mabye an H22. I hear h22 swaps arnt so easy to do but i dont mind a challenge. I just finished removing the rad AC shiftlinkage headers ect and waiting for someone with a big enough floor jack to jacker up over the engine. He should be here soon so ill try to grab some pics if my wife has the camera back. I uploaded a few pics of the shell and the hole in the block. If anyone has any comments or any little tips they would surly help as this is my first time ripping one of these engines out. Also if im correct I must remove the big nut and cotter pin on the rotor and the bolt from the control arm to pop the drive axels out? My dad told me this but like I said we have no experience on hondas. Thanks every1!

not bad but personally i would waste the money on any h serries motor go C1 and boost it but yeah youll have to take the axle nut off then jack the cap up and take the lower control arm bolt of not the upper its alot easier and if your goona go a Vtec engine i have a p28 ecu that ill sell you if youll need it just let me know

good luck

Hey BadassCRX! Thanks for stopping by!

p28? Sure how much? Yeah I got the drive axels out but I snapped the control arm bolt on the passenger side so I think I need new ball joints now. No biggie there shot neways. Im waiting for my cross drilled and slotted rotors and brembo break kit to arive so I can slap them on. I;m picking up a 93 Civic Hatch Si for 300$ with 176,000km on it. It rolled over once but still runs so I might just swap the engine with mine to learn the basics before I attempt to fit a JDM engine in. The guys at honda told me it would take 8 hours to remove the engine.. It took me about 2 hours and I have everything removed and unbolted. Just need to unbolt the side engine mounts and jack the car over the engine. I am going right now to pick up the Hatch with a car dolly and might swap both engines in and out today. If I do I will try to get the camera from the wife at work so I can take detailed pictures. My camera phone just doesnt cut it.

90$ great I pm'd you.

Well I didn't get the car back here yet because my buddy's trailer hitch wasn't rated for 5,000 LBS and u Haul wouldn't let us take the car dolly hooked up to it. So sometime this week I will get out there. I fiberglassed the little Honda cancer holes that were starting and removed the side kick pads. There was some rust under them so I grinded it down but wasn't enough damage to replace so I'm just going to paint over with a rocker paint or something. My current supplier for automotive parts has full turbo kits for this car and the stock D engine for 1300 so I'm thinking about ordering one in and boosting the Si engine for kicks and giggles. I ordered a JDM SiR cluster big reason being I don't have a tac and I'm not mounting one of them 5 inchers haha. I painted the cluster trim Blue aswell as the door handles and speaker covers for looks. I grinded down surface rust around the real bumper and engine pay, primered and painted them. I got some cross drilled and slotted rotors comming for the front and I'm waiting for a shop here to get my rear disc conversion in. I was thinking of investing in a brembo break kit. but they are pricey. I might do my hole suspension either by K Sport or Skunk2 as they have all the underbody parts I would want matched colors so it looks decent. Prices between the two are pertty much the same so if anyone has any input on either of the two would be appreciated. I included some pics of the dash work but didn't take any of the body work as I was using my shitty camera phone and not the good digital. Wish I could find it :S

why would you call an H22 a waste of money?

the "C1" complete changeover is $3150 on hmotorsonline, compaired to the H22 being $2200. then you suggest adding "boost" which, when all said and done will probably only make it slighty faster (this is assuming you dont go with stupid bosst levels that will severely limit the life of the engine) then the stock H22.. so you're plan, although most likely faster, will cost atleast a couple grand more to complete.. not to mention the extra wear and tare<sp?> that boosting the C1 will cause.

i guess the most important question is how much do you want to spend? the b18c1 engine is more expensive then the h22,( almost $1000 on hmotorsonline.com) but easier to put in. the h22 will be a tougher swap, but faster overall, stock vs stock.
