Ok not really...

So my brother married a woman from the far south. She grew up about an hour away from the coast in Alabama in the backwoods. (they met in the army in case you're wondering) She lives up here and is probably the most sane one of her family.

Well, for whatever reason my sister in law decides to bail her brother out of jail from Muncie or Indy. He used to cook lots of meth. Brilliant, huh?

Anyway 1500 later I met my sister in laws brother.

*fast forward a year*

Found out that my sister in laws little sister is pregnant. She's 17 and doesn't know what to do. Here's the problem with growing up in a southern family.

She's white... the kids dad is african american. Her three brothers, including the one up here have basically disowned her.

Her mom and stepdad are forcing her to get an abortion, and she's just 17 without an ounce of racism in her blood.

My brother is saying that he'll be willing to kick Terry's ass to the curb (sister in laws brother) and have her move up here, have the baby and decide if she wants to keep it and live up here, or put it up for adoption and live up here.

How fucked up in the head do you really have to be to disown your little sister for not being a fucking biggot?

The war is over, has been for 160 some years. African Americans are people too.

I think he'd be stunned, but at 60k a year he was planning on moving down to by where he works in Anderson and getting a house anyway.

It's just I have NO problems with abortions IF that's what the expecting mother wants to do; but being forced into it simply because of the color of the fathers skin is just too... 1800s for me to swallow.

not everyone from the South is racist. im from the South (Lynchburg, Virginia to be exact...about 20 minutes from where Robert E. Lee surrendered to General Grant at the Appomattox Courthouse in Appomattox, Virginia...quick history lesson btw) but now live in the north (Fort Wayne, Indiana) and i have found that people up here in the north are far more racist than people in the South.

I'll have to disagree with you there B... racism is everywhere. You'll have backwoods dwelling ingrates that will disown their offspring because they went against their f'd up morals no matter where you live.

Whether or not it's more prevelant in one part of the country or not is really irrelevant. It's ignorant no matter where you are.

My ex actually has a cousin in a similar situation. No forced abortion but she was disowned by the family for having a kid with her bf of a few years because he was black.

Honestly my parents wouldn't be thrilled if my sisters were in a similar situation. Not because of their personal opinions, but the family on both sides isn't too cool about it. I personally couldn't care if the guy was green as long as he treats my sister right.
