:confused:Hello everyone I just finished an engine swap for my 91 civic. I put a d16z6 engine in. My question is at what rpm does the vtec kicks in and when it kicks in does it make any kind of sound?

unless you have a cold air intake and no hood, odds are you wont hear it. the d16 doesn't have a big changeover. it's for economy and power efficiency.

I am using an ecu jumper with a P28 ecu. I noticed the sound right around the 5000 RPM mark. I also installed a ram air. Here are some pics.

Put a piece of rubber between your intake and positive battery terminal, right now! You don't want that to arc.
what's wrong with that set up? wrong intake? different battery?

tranny problems

hey blanco can you help me out ? I have a real bad noise coming from the tranny. I hear the noise when I press on the gas pedal and also when I let go of the pedal. It sounds like a grinding noise. I also tried adjusting the tranny cable but I still hear the noise. I installed a new clucth, throw out bearing and resurface the flywheel. I also bought new axles do you know what can be causing the problems. I am thinking that the problem might be axle related, any help would be appreciated.thxz:confused:

did yo uinstall the pressure plate backwards? double check before you say no, it happens more than you think.

tranny problems

I can not hear the noise at neutral. Before I adjusted the clucth I could hear the throw out bearing but not anymore. I was checking the engine and the engine plate that covers the tranny is missing a bolt do you think that could be the problem? I am going to check for that and I will let you guys know.thxz

The best way to hear or check for VTEC crossover is to remove the air filter and its housing temporarily. You should be able to hear it with these items removed. At least, that's what works for me and other people I know.

I hope this helps!

What does it sounds like?

I'm glad my b16 isn't that hard to hear the crossover. You'd have to be a idiot to not hear it on a b series.
But I know someone with a d series vtec, and i can't hear it either, so idk about that. i'd just wire up a light like someone said. that way you'll always know that it's working if you can't hear it.

It sounds like fast motobike. I've got the same problem in my D15Z6. I can't hear when Vtec turn on :(

v-tec is like a 2 stroke dirt bike v-tec=powerband just like a 2 stroke dirt bike will have a power band so will a engine with v-tec. it changed sound and rpms go up way faster.
