we have a 90 accord with a 94 h22 swap, was running well for 2 years +. all of a sudden the speedo starts working intermidantly (sp?) it got worse as time progressed and now reads only for a second at a time very rarely. the trans died so we but a new one in and the problem is still there. here is where it stops making sense. with the speed sensor out put still plugged in you can spin the gear and the speedo will read like it should. however with it in the trans it has the problem rarely working. it is getting spun by the diff and if you take the very top off where the electrical plugs in you can see it spining so i know the gear is good. the trans oil is fine. any guesses?

i tested for a short with my multimeter, everything seams to be ok. but even if a wire was shorting out why did everything work fine with the speed sensor being turned while out of the trans?

well if everything spins in the tranny and the wires test good, then your speedo is probly just burnt out. most likely a short within the gauge cluster itself.

Look for corosion on the plug it self. I had your problem. If you got the green gunk I had. Clean it with some contact cleaner w/ a small wire brush and see if that helped.

well there wasnt any corrotion but i think the pins were messed up, soldered on a new junkyard harness and it works great^_^
