I am thinking about repainting my project EK. I plan on getting a swap done in the coming months but I am thinking a new paint job would do well.

The car is black, but I want to do a dark olive with gold flake (very subdued). Can a paint/body shop repaint the whole car with the engine in it or do I need to strip is completely down to the shell?

you need to pull the engine if you want it painted under the hood

It's not impossible to paint the bay with the engine still in it, especially if the car still has the stock motor so there's some room in the bay to work. A really talented paint guy can pull as much stuff off of the engine and out of the bay as possible and then paint the bay with the motor in it.

But yeah, it would probably be better, easier, and faster to just pull the whole motor.

damn. Guess I will have to keep it stock color. Thanks.

The engine bay is black I assume? Clean it up nice and leave it. Do the rest of the jambs and say fuck it :)

the contrast from a dark green car to a black engine bay won't be that bad. Plus, I know of people who have gotten their entire chassis painted one color, and painted the engine bay black.

Also, the dark green you want to throw on your car is probably my favorite color on a honda! I plan on going the same route when I get the cash.

a black engine bay will go with any color and its easier to cover up grease spots when its black.. just shoot the rest of the car and mask off teh bay

I might do that. I am just worried that it will look half assed. I'm not going for super JDM ricer like the local kids. I just want a clean looking quick ride for weekends and possibly some time on the AutoX track.

I'll probably gut the whole interior before the swap anyway, so if I mask off the dash area, glass and engine bay it will look alright. I hope.

if you do all the work to strip the car down and mask everything off, that should save quite a few bucks at the paint booth.

Thats what I figured. I was planning on fitting some evo VIII seats to the car later this winter. So in the process, why not strip it down, clean/replace the interior parts with CTR and then go for a whole new black carpet.

While its stripped I can send it off the be painted and not deal with labor for the misc. BS.

Before I do all that I need to source CTR front and rear lips as well as side skirts.

Ugh.....this project beater is turning into a monster.

sounds like it will be sick! the hardest part is figuring out where to draw the line when it comes to budgeting a build. Spend too little, it will look like ass... spend too much... run out of cash and you're stuck with a partially painted car:eek:

I won't have a problem with running out of money. I've got my goals set. Since the stock car should be black then I can leave it black until next fall.
First: Get the motor swapped and have it running 100% with no issues
Second: Brakes, rear disc swap and upgrade to slotted rotors with good pads and steel braided lines.
Third: Suspension, Tein coil overs and 16" wheels
Fourth: Visual

sounds like a plan.... what are you gonna swap in?

Here is a picture of my engine compartment... i left my engine in when i painted my car and wrapped everything with aluminum foil and masking take... i thought that it came out pretty good myself...
