Hey guys i was wondering if you could give me advices on wich one should i boost a d16 or a b18b.

Jeeeeez. He just wants some advice man. I'm sure by reading the title of the topic you knew what it was about so why did you even bother saying anything. Anyways...Boost the B18b. In my opinion they're a better motor for it. Don't know why just never really been turned on by the single cams. I gotta buddy with a boosted Ls and it smokes. He's somewhere around 280whp. I forgot. But he runs 12's and he hasnt spent more then 2000 dollars. So do it.
 
You can get the same power from a D16 for a very similar cost. I would ask that if you're going to offer an opinion, please have an actual reason for it. Not just, "I never really liked them".

Well I'm pretty sure my reason is implied by me saying I'm not too fond of a single cam. This is something I said in my response. My reason you want to know? Have experience with both motors and I like the stock tourque numbers better than most b series motors on the Ls. So, in the case of not going boost, Ls is far more superior to a d16. In my own honest opinion, that makes the motor itself superior for boost. But you are right. Both motors can make the same power on the same budget. Not gonna argue there. He wanted to know what motor we thought he should get, and I told him. Just cause I'm a noob doesnt mean I dont know anything. In some cases an opinion shouldn't even need to be backed up. I, as well as 90% of the honda population would take a B over a D anyday. The motors are night and day. Why not start off bigger? Ls is the way I would go man. Good luck with whatever you build man. By the way Blanco. If an opinion with a reason is soooo important to you then please explain to me how you get the same power spending the same amount of money on a D. I do agree with you on this but I'd like to know how you think it's possible seeing as how you didn't post that. I'm not flaming or anything, I'm just saying , I see these Ls motors make good numbers and I've never dealt with a boosted D so I'm just curious.
 
First, I didn't say you don't know anything. I asked for a reason for the opinion beyond the usual B-Series bandwagon crap. Second, a proven engine build isn't an opinion it's a fact. I don't think it's possible, I know it is.

D16Z6 = $200
Suzuki Vitara pistons = $200
TunerToys rods = $250
Block guard = $110
Homemade turbo kit = $1000
Tuning = $300-500
Machine work = $300

Now you're good to 400whp for a little more than your buddy spent on his B18...assuming that $2k includes buying and swapping the engine. If you want 250whp or less, subtract everything but the turbo kit and tuning. ARP head studs and a new head gasket should be a given, regardless.

Those are facts. "I don't like it" and "it's a better engine but I don't know why" are opinions. Reality is that there's no "better" engine. That's why I asked him what his goals and budget are. Different people have different goals that would make a B-Series a better choice than a D-Series and vice versa. Some people need to say they have a B-Series because they don't understand how to make power with a D, some people would rather have the 77mm stroke of the B16 for rev'ing, some would rather have the 84mm bore of the B20, some build D16s as the anti-B-Series-bandwagon, and some would rather just spend the money for a B-Series swap on building a D. People are different.

Personally, I weighed my options between the B18B block I still have (sold the head long ago) and building a D16Z6. At the end of the day I only wanted a turbocharged 200whp. Including the price of buying the engine, I spent about $1500 building my Z6 and it put down stock B16 power. On top of that, I have fresh rings, a fresh hone, new gaskets, seals, and bearings, and a complete engine tune-up. In my opinion, that was my best option.

Actually jusmping off the B series bandwagon, there are "better" motors. Try thinking of a K20 for a momment. When you can swap a stock motor in your car with bolt ons and hondata and a good tune and can run twelves? Well I dont see D or B series doing that. Lets not mention what happens to those things with internal work. I'm sorry for all of this confusion Blanco, I just think that build for build, D16 to Ls, this Ls will be superior. I also have never seen d16 do a 9 sec pass. Although that may not be what the guy is looking for, but it sure says someting about the motor. Now your D16 that you have puts down what 142-146whp? Let me ask you, How much did you spend to get to those numbers. Cause I spent a grand for my B16. Full swap. Had it running the day I bought it. Trust me I'm not even arguing your opinion dude. Just having a good ol' debate thats all. At the end I dont want any hate or anything. Which there shouldn't be. THat would be childish. I just don't like having my opinion question to the point where "i dont have a reason." I do have a reason. B series bandwagon man. You make a response to this all you want and argue some more. I will not say anymore abot this subject. To you at least cause that seems to get me in trouble. Actually, I ask you one more question. Let's just say he wants 230whp. I have no clue what he wants cause he hasnt posted back yet. Isn't it fair enough to say that an Ls will get him there a little easier than a d16 and yield higher tourque numbers? Tourque is what most of us honda people are looking for since it's hard to come by. Just a question. And as for the person who made this post. What are your goals? Budget? Is this your daily driver or a race car? Whats up with it?
 
Blanco let's just end it here ok. I apoligize for not backing up my reason. Because honestly, I dont know why I like b series motors better. I just do man. Not everything needs this fact behind it man. I just see everyone not liking the b series motor anymore. It's "out of date" now. H22's and K20's are the thing now. I want to keep the B series going. That's all. I honestly don't care what the guy does. Either way he goes I would love to see pics of his build and stuff. Just no more flamin' cause it's getting on my nerves.

But most people will agree with me that the Ls is a better motor to boost. And just so you know when you say "you're essays are getting on my nerves" the correct grammer is "your." Is it safe to say that an N/A build between the two motors is clear? The Ls will make better numbers. Why not the same in the FI world. That's all I want to know.
 
Wow. This place is worse than honda-tech. On Honda-tech you can actually say something without getting jumped with dumb shit that doesn't even matter. This started because I said he should build the b18b without giving a reason. Who the fuck cares what my reason is. He wants to know what motor to build and I told him what I thought.

of course the LS can make more power, but is that what he's looking for.. he still hasnt answered so.. there is no reason to argue is there... what if he only wants 250-300 hp.. thats easily doable on a d16 and for cheaper than the LS.. but if he wants an 500+ hp monster of course the LS would be the better option..

Simma down now. Not that big of a deal. Some people obviously love D-series. Let them. Besides, I don't think the guy who started this thread is even interested anymore.
 
Haha. No one jacked this thread. I told the kid what I thought was a better motor. Get the fuck over it. And I never said that d motors were junk. I dont know where you got that one from man. I do know that I personally, whether you do and regardless if it matters to the OP, prefer to build a b series. If you read the question, he's not asking for many technical points about each motor. He wants to know what we think. Not what we know. My advice to him is to build an Ls. I will not explain any further than that. I am sorry fo everything I said. So can we all grow and stop flaming on me now.
