ABS &TCS light on - 2001 Accord EX V6

Hi ,

I'm new to this forum and also new for repairing. My car has been running great util I lent it to my friend. I found both the TCS and ABS ON all the time the next day after I started my car.


I googled the web and found many useful tips for reset the ABS light, but none of those work for my 2001 Accord EX V6 model. Can some of you share an insight before I have to pay $115 to the dealer on it?

I'm looking for:
1) how to reset those lights. I'm hopeing it's just a false LIGHT-ON;
2) how to read out the code for the ABS light if it comes back again after the reset.

you need an obd2 scanner with ABS capabilities to read the codes.
To reset them just unhook the battery for 10 mins, just make sure you have your radio unlock code or navigation unlock code (if equipped) or any other things like that handy for after battery power is restored.
Usually if there is a problem with the ABS system the traction control system won't be able to operate either.

Thanks Welfare, but disconnect the battery didn't help resetting the ABS light.
I left the battery negative unconnected for an hour. The ABS and TCS lights
are ON after it's reinstalled.


Any other idea?

Then there is a problem with the system, I would guess with one of the abs wheel speed sensors, like a wire broke or disconnected, if one of the wheel speed sensors isn't working then the traction control system will not work either, that is why both lights are on, I would say bite the bullet and take it somewhere to have it scanned.

I didn't even think of that, it is a real problem with GM vehicles because the brake dust from the metallic brakes always sticks to the ring and the abs sensor (since they are magnetic, well the sensor is, and the ring can become), causing problems, but yah, if your friend did a little off roading or something and got a crap load of mud on the reluctor ring, then the sensor may not be able to "see" the teeth, and if he got a rock caught in the teeth of the reluctor and the rock came around and broke the sensor. . . well, either way, I guess you could check that out before you took it somewhere.

I own a Honda Accord 2001 3.0 V6, i just installed HIDs and i blew up a headlight fuse, i replaced it and apparently somehow i blew up an ABS fuse... when i tried to start up the car, i got the ABS - TCS lights on my dash board...so i knew it got something to do with the fuses or a short or something like that...and i'm just putting this out because honda repair shops, and all mechanical shops in general are so ridiculous expensive, so before u go and give away ur money, check all 3 fuse boxes (if u own a Honda accord 1998 - 2002) and check ur ABS fuses and replace if need to, and run the car for 5 minutes...
