dipswitch kill switch option?

Hi,

Hopefully this isn't the dumbest idea anyone has ever heard of (and if it is just let me know so I can forget about it) ... but has anyone ever seen/tried/considered using a set of dipswitches rather than a standard toggle/rocker for a kill switch?

The basic thought is - if thieves are good enough to find the kill switch, they would still be confronted with having to figure out the right combination to get the car to work. Of course, you need at least 8-10 switches to have enough possible combinations to reduce the probability of them hitting on the right combo in a short period of time.

Anyway, I am just fishing for thoughts on whether this idea is worth pursuing and if anyone could suggest potential problems/issues I'd have with it that would make it less worthwhile.

Certainly not the dumbest thing I've ever heard. It just seems overly complicated and not that difficult to defeat vs a single toggle. I'd think you'd be better off just hinding the single switch really well.

I have a kill toggle hidden behind interior panel in the trunk, and a push button hidden in passenger compartment. But I've been thinking about moving it to something I don't use, like the A/C or hazards switch.

Thanks for your response. One clarification ... I assume that your comment regarding the ease of defeating the dip is simply because finding the switch leads them to the necessary wires to complete the circuit, no matter what the switch type ... that is, they can rip it out and remove the switch then just make the connection by physically connecting the wires? (I am not nearly as well versed in electronics as the rest of you on this forum ... so pardon my naive questions).

I don't know much beyond the very basics of electronics either...but yeah, rip out all 200 switches you carefully wired together and twist the wires together. Done.

The kill switch in my ride is from the previous owner, so I actually have only a very limited understanding of how it works and no idea where the wires are routed.

I know just enough to be dangerous. ^-^

Hey, wow...very informative. Thanks.

Bookmark system engage on my mark....3,2,1...mark.

edit:

I now understand that I have a ignition interupt switch in the cockpit w/ a bypass switch in the trunk. Since I haven't seen any splices or hack job near the starter, I must assume that it's wired into the in dash ignition (there's six miles of wire crammed in the fuse box, so who knows?)

But, I've got #'a 4, 5 & 6 covered on his list of what works, so I guess I'm good.
Also dude I got car from lived two blocks from Compton, and managed to hang onto it, so I'm not too worried any way....just natural paranoia.
