Bad ass B-series
I have 1994 b18b1 bock and i have a b16a head with a mild port and polish. I am building the bottom end completely incuding sleeveing and all forged internals. My question is i have heard that you cant run anything but stock cams on a ls/vtec due to the valve clearence so I was wondering what my options are as far as aftermarket cams and even stock cams. I want to run a turbo so I am going to need some suggestions on different cams i can use. Or even some material to read on cams to understand what everthing means. I know the basics but not sure exactly what the differences cause. I would apriciate some help this subject.
Thanks you

Ok how about aftermarket cams.I just got to look at my head and it is nice not really sure how it lines up on the block but it is a pr3-2 stock with a mild port and polish. I am probably going to send it off to finish the port and polishing work already done to it and have them rebuild it with supertech components. Any ideas would help.
thanks

Well i got the head from a guy on ebay and it has a mild port and polish. I looked at it with a flash light and it looks good I did't use one before so I didnt really have a good idea of how well it was done but it looks real nice it just isnt an extreme port and polish but it is all the way through. I am going to talk to a local shop about it who does this alot so I will let you guys know from that. I just heard that the ls/vtec engines can get messed up by bending valves my question is that does this only occur when you use stock ls pistons.
Thanks

Thanks lsvtec300. I am here to do research that is what everyone here is for I learn from others mistakes. I did buy 4 books last night about building performance honda engines, cam information, better turbo configurations. and on hybrid motors like the ls/vtec so I am sure I will learn alot from that. I was just wondering because everyone I have talked to online says you cant run aftermarket cams on a ls/vtec but that seems to be a myth the more i read. I might just run the stcok type r cams to see what power I get and them go from there.
Thanks

woah woah woah woah

the only reason you want to use stock cams is because of this??

that's completely NOT true.

your best bet for turbo would be to run a turbo grind cam. Crower, JG, and Skunk2 are all good choices.

Blanco I am not tard I have noticed ono every post that anyone asks a question you treat them like garbage (thanks for the advice but you can leave now), Why in the hell do you think i would buy a book on hybrid honda engine building? And civicious I know that is not true or i know that now anyway, and i was asking about crower turbo cams because that is what I plan on running. or did I not mention this cause i really dont remember anywho I am thinking of running the crower 402-t cams in the car but for now I might just run the b16b cams that i have untill I get the turbo on the car they are easy enough to change.
Thanks

I dont take it as an insult but if you know the answer point me in some direction. I know what adjustable cam gears do but I read it was a lift issue but i guess it isnt. So I am planning on getting the crower 402t cams I heard they are great cams and my buddy is running some in his drag truck different cams same people though. I am thinking of getting the entire crower valve train since the stock one seems a bit worn. Haha oh i am gonna change that lol that was last month. lol

Well that is what I am saying. I understand that but that site clears it up better. But i think i have a good plan the head looks clean but i am probably gonna have it hot tanked and checked out so when it goes on the block i know that it is good. I am definatly gonna get the local shop to give me a hand on the final setup.
Thanks

I am going to have it checked for cracks the guy i bought it from said he already had it done but didnt send any papers to prove thisso I figured i will have it done to be sure. I am going to do it the professional way to be sure it is done right. I was reading that site you gave me and it looks kinda simple but i am gonna read over it a couple more times and look some more to make sure I get how to do it properly.
thanks again

I understand. A book i just got really goes into detail on how to do that so after reading it I shouldn't have a problem it looks simple time consuming but simple. One question though I am looking to have my engine sleeved and i was wondering how do you choose a company. I was looking at benson and then my book was talking about AEBS and there is also erl. How do you choose? Erl is a bit overpriced but AEBS and Benson are about the same so how do you choose?
Thanks

Yeah I was looking more at aebs and like the way they make it closed deck but make it built into the sleeve instead of using a block gaurd and they are known by many as bulletproof so I will call them and talk to them if they are as informative as benson was then i will probabaly go with them.
