RETIRED
so, work was having a happy hour tonight, so i figure i'll just go into the office for the day, then head over with everyone.

Well, about 20 min into my 45 min commute, my passenger side front caliper decides to lock up or something. i'm able to safely pull over on the highway. it could have been a lot worse, considering its raining out.

so, i call AAA to get a tow.

turns out my memebrship is expired. fuck me.
i'm out of town, and don't know any local towing companies out there...
2 hours later, i get a tow truck.
it's a dolly style, not a flat bed.
yeah, not happening with the M... A, its RWD, so it would need to be towed backwards, nose down... B, the front wheel is locked up.... not happening.
another hour later, i get a flat bed. we make haste to BMW of water town.
car is unloaded and i get the paper work together with the service writer.
they are booked and won't even be able to look at it until monday.
no biggie... just need a car now.
they are out of loaners.
fuck.
call up enterprise. they are out, but expecting one back around 2pm.
230 rolls around and i get a call back. 300 comes around and i finally get picked up and head over to enterprise.
4pm, i'm finally back home with a jeep liberty at $56 a day.
fuck me.

so, i missed happy hour, got nothing done today because i was on the side of the road or waiting for most the day... and i'm wet and cold :(

today sucked :(

good news is that most of the work is warrantied, so i shouldn't have a very big bill depending on what exactly is wrong with it.

no, i would have had to pay for the loaner anyway, since i didn't buy the car there. they are free only if you bought the car from them, which is totally understandable. so i would have had to pay anyway.

I'm really sorry, B. Take the Jeep to the liquor store, buy some alcohol and stay home and have happy hour with the GF. ;)

I will spare you my stories of woe with my shitter car. Your day wasn't so bad as some of mine have been. Imagine 115 degree heat, overheated car, with 2 kids crying. That wasn't fun. (No, the integra never did this to me... the Eagle Talon TSi did.)

at least overheating is safe. having a wheel lock up on you in the rain is not fun. lol i bet most people would have spun out and might have gotten hurt. luckily i knew what i was doing and no one was around me.

well, i was just referring to the weather woes. i've been through my fair share of issues with cars... never had a brake lock up in bad weather, but i've had other things happen in the rain... hell... anything in the rain isn't fun. :( Get the girlfirend to do some schloggin doggin' and you'll be fine. ;)

Should of renewed your AAA on the spot, hell you can buy a AAA plan while your broken down.

ive had a great day. 1200 miles on teh mirage since i left wed morning. i love SC. great place. time to shower and hit the club/bar scene! <3 vote for me!!!

I had a motorcycle do the same thing to me. Front caliper locked up, the front wheel slid (thank goodness I was in gravel at the time, it gave me a split second to react).. I rode it from roughly 40mph down to 20mph doing a stopppie before it went end over end. I jumped off of the foot pegs and over the handle bars, and actually came to a running stop. Then the bike slid up behind me and took my legs out from under me, lol..

All in all, I came out just fine with like 2 bruises, and after walking home for a wrench, I bled out the front brakes and they released, and I limped it home. That was my first bike, a Yamaha 650 special.

That sucks, luckily you were able to get off the road safely :) How much will that repair be at the BMW garage?

The world is upside down. B has a girl and constant ass and I've gotten very little all summer. Haha just kidding..

depends on what it actually is. I still have warranty on the car (all bmws do, 50k/4 years) but the warranty is only good on specific items. power train and wear items mostly. so i'm not sure if the caliper is bad or not, but i'm pretty sure thats not in the warranty. but the rotor and pad are if they are to blame.

did you find out exactly what the problem was?

still waiting on them to call me back. expecting their call within the hour

True. Brakes aren't part of 'safety' equipment are they? I mean, failure could kill you. Good thing it didn't. Maybe lay a guilt trip on 'em and get 'em to fix it. Either way, I don't think it will be too much to fix.
