im looking into buying a b16b for my 95 hatch.

i was looking all over the place and canyt find anyone to help.

i was wondering since my motor is obd2 and my wire harness is obd1 should i just buy a conversion harness from obd1 to obd2

if so is there anyway to find out if the motor is obd2a or 2b

and the motor i currently have swapped is a 96 ex out of an ek.

somone please help! i need to know for saturday when i purchase the motor.

If I'm reading this correctly, you already have an OBD2a motor swapped in your car? If that is true, the B16B is an OBD2 motor so if your current setup is working(OBD2a motor in OBD1 car), then the B16B should drop right in. If it's an EX in there currently, it should already be wired for Vtec and such.

The easiest way to find out the ODB of the B16B is based on the year of the motor from the person/company you're buying it from. The only thing I can thing of that is obviously different between the two is the wiring harnesses. Are you buying the harness as well?
 
b16b's are all obd2
just re-use the harness off the engine that is in the car it's already wired up for what you need, and run a wire for the knock sensor, other than that you will be just fine, drop it in and go, if you have a jumper (obd1-obd2a) in your car just plug in the ecu for the b16b, if you don't have one get one, and get the jumper harness too.

You're right, all B16Bs are OBD2, but one of his questions was the differences between OBD2a and OBD2b.

That my friend I don't have an answer for,
I deal with NOTHING OBD2, I convert to obd1, easier to tune with and alot less hassles with check engine lights and such.
 
He hasn't responded to this thread in a bit. I asked if he was getting the harness with the B16B. I figured this would be the easiest way to tell the difference between OBD2a and OBD2b.
 
I swapped the motor in my 96 hatch with a type r b16b from HMO. It's wasn't obd2 compliant. Had to change the oil pump to accept the ckf sensor, drill and tap the vtec valve body for the vtec switch and add a knock sensor. Then again I live in California, so they want all that shit on there. Just fyi I'm using a 97 Del Sol ecu. Probably losing about 20 hp but it still runs strong. Rips when the vtec kicks.
