thinking about getting a 2005 SRT-4, what do you guys think of it??? handling, performance, what are the pro's and con's????

Good and fast in a straight line. Absolute shit in cornering. It's the same Neon body with pretty much nothing special except rims and slightly updated suspension. It's a parts bin car powered by a parts bin engine with a fat turbocharger on it. Nothing special, but they're fast as shit when rolling.

the motor swaps into my mirage :)

personally i love the car. i'd get one too if it wasnt beat to shit.

How does $18,000 out the door sound??? with 36k miles??? good price???

Wasn't the new price like 19,995 out the door? I remember it being a car of the year under 20k. So I don't think that's a very good price at all.

Old roommate had one, put some springs/shocks, and new f/r sway bars along with some azenis... that thing cornered very well. Quality of the interior is sub-par, the seats are over agressive, they sound like garbage, and it still looks like a neon.

trav picked his 03 orange burst SRT4, for 14K... it had 28K miles, it was immaculate, and it was dropped a bit on eibachs.

car was stock and in mint shape inside and out otherwise.

wasn't that the #1 douche bag car? let me see if i can find that thread.

SRT-4 it's domestic rice.... :D
They are pretty fast though I have seen some at the local track with just bolt ons and an ECU reflash running low 11's.......
But in the end it's still a NEON.

that would have to be with slicks and an lsd. i have seen a lot of srt-4's run with and without mods and low 11's isn't reachable unless it has a boost up and drive train mods. those cars aren't that fast.

...

He said that they were flashed ECU's, that would turn the boost up...

They are fast in a straight line and can be made to handle very well, regardless of the fact that its FWD.

With a turbo swap or a select few other mods, the car could definitely break into the 11's and run somewhere in the 11's for a daily driver.

Working on the cars is a piece of cake as well.

can the block handle that much power that would allow it to run 11's. i know stock nissan and honda blocks need to be rebuilt to run that fast. plus without drive train modifications, they tires will just spin.

i'll be honest, i don't know a lot about the neons. but i am skeptical of just about any 4 cylinder car running 11's simply with bolt ons and a tune.

Well if by bolt on's you're including turbo swaps, they definitely can run at least mid to high 11's fairly easily (see, engine management + tune + turbo swap + turboback exhaust + intake + headers + sticky tires -> you're at a few grand there depending on where you sourced the parts and whether you bought new or used).

Can they be reliable? Yeah, some people have great luck. Conversely, some people have terrible luck and have nothing but problems with the car - I think its kind of a hit or miss type car.

Almost any modded car running 11's on a consistent basis and being driven out on the street is going to need a rebuild after serving daily driving duty.

I've seen a few of those 2.4L bottom ends go real fast. From what I've seen, almost unbreakable. 18k is too much though.

ok. i wasn't considering turbo swaps as a bolt on. i guess on turbo'd cars, it is. it's not too tough to do and would make it easy to get up to 400hp or so. did see an srt-4 with upgraded turbo and nitrous pushing 375hp. not sure about the times though. i think it was mostly used for street racing.
