M. Vick and the Race Card?

I have been watching the news and its pulling up the Race Card w/ Vick.
The NAACP is calling for the NFL to re-instate him, once he pays his dept to society. It also claims that some of the over due media coverage is because he is a black man, and the US society loves to bring down well off black men (O.J. M. Jackson, Tyson).
Is there any meret to this? Is Vick getting a raw deal? What do you guys think?

I personaly feel that the media covarge is because he was the face of a NFL team, I feel Peyton Manning was in this, I do feel it would be this big. I feel it is more because of Celebrity and not RACE, look at the Pairs Hilton thing. I always thought the M. Vick had a gasta persona, I think that is a wrong way to persent your self in the media, especially when so many young people look up to you. Why do some sports athelites feel they want to look thug.

Good point, with the Pete Rose. The hip-hop world is mixed up in with dog fighting maybe that is also why race is poping up. There was a basketball player (name escapes me) said dog fighting is a form of a sport.

I just dont get how people can rally around him, just because of skin color. He has reportedly hung dogs and drown them himself.

Vick had everything, and had no reason to screw it up. Why did he do all of this? Because he WANTED to. He wanted to be a gangsta, the man, a player. He chose to do something that could potentially ruin he career. Is he being made an example of because he is black? No. Is he being made an example of because he is a pro-football player. Most likely. The reasoning for this is simple though - these people are often looked up to, and they are paid absurd amounts of money to play sports. Why anyone would want to put a 150M contract in jeopardy is beyond me, but in a way it's not that suprising.

I'd say to let him live a life of failure and maybe give him a chance to give back to the community to somewhat clear his name. But given the unsavory people he was involved with during the dogfighting ring, something else will surface before then.

EDIT: Going with what Dom is saying, anyone who drowns a living dog in a 5-gallon bucket with his own hands should be shot regardless of skin color.

why does race always have to come into play? The fact of the matter is, he broke the law, plain and simple. Why can't he be a man, and admit to his mistake. How about for once a celebrity take responsibility for their actions. As far as dog fighting goes, right now it's illeagel period. The great thing about america is if you don't like the laws there are methods in place to change them, but to ignore them because you don't agree with them is criminal. "Everyone else is doing it" is not a winning defence in court, nor is ignorance of the law. As far as Vick and the NFL, that's up to the NFL. It's a job and if the company any of us work for does not wish to hire us back because we went to jail for commiting a feloney that would be there right. Why should he be any diffrent?
