like the title says im not sure.

but ive driven a couple of 350z's at work, along with the g35 coupes, (and the new 08 g37coupe :D) and i really like them, buut....

if i work and save, only spending what i have to, i can buy a 350z or g35 in about 10 months. cash, no payments, all mine.

i dont know if i could do it, does it sound like a good idea?

i would finance but i have zero credit and no-one to cosign. so this is my only option.

figured i would get others input.

Depends on you, I would shop around for a place that will finance you, even if it's a really high rate. 10+% trust me, someone will. Pay double the payments for the first year and after a year just pay it off in full.

That should give you a major bump in your credit score.

I have a Z and the car is a total blast. with out a turbo or supercharger the car isn't fast, but it's quick, also with very minor mods you can make the car handle like its on rails. My Z feels like a gokart. it's sick. =)

However, with that being said, I'm not sure what I'd do if I was you. Ever think about stepping the bike up? F4i is a wonderful bike but for street use it's hard to think of life with out a liter bike. =) oh boy how I love it.

I ride my bike 5+ times for every 1 time I take my Z out.

just some food for thought.

it depends on the finance rate you could get. if you were to finance at 6%, i would suggest making a modest down people and keeping the cash liquid. if you paid cash for it now, you would lose money in the depreciation of the vehicle immdediately. if you can afford it, i would find a stable investment or use the money for a rainy day emergency.

if you can save for 10 months and have the cash. id do that. fuck payments and fuck interest.

...but on the other hand if he had it financed, he could build up his credit rating which would help him out in the long run.

ask if the place where you plan on buying the car at has a "first time buyer option". some dealerships do.

owning a new car is cool and all, but new cars are the worst investment you can possibly make. if you have 30+ grand in hand, why not look for a house, or something thats not going to loose $3000 in it's value as soon as you take ownership?

fixed it for ya...;)

And I sat in a slightly tuned 350Z today....I was not impressed at all..

sure it looks sexy...but it just didn't match my personna or the feel I like to get from a car when sitting in them. I sat in my old datsun 260Z...and counted up the feel differences...and the older Z just has that fell like your born to sit in the car. The 350Z just felt like a new pair of pants you have to suck in and hold your breath to try on while at Macy's.

More performance possibilities and cheaper to find a sweet local 240-280Z...and mod the hell out of it if your dumping that much money into a car.

well as far as the bike goes, im not looking to mod or get a bigger one. im only 150lbs, a 600cc is plenty big for me.

and i wouldnt buy a new model, looking at more of a 03 or 04 model.

and ive driven them at work and i really like them, fits more like the new pants i just bought, confortable, but nothing like the ones that are already broken in.
im just not one for older cars. i like newer models.

i will check on that first time buyer thing though. i know i would end up paying more but i wouldnt mind getting something on my credit.
but paying it off at once would make insurance cheaper too. my gf is gonna quote me on monday just to give me a ballpark on what insurance will look like if i get one.

Why do people always think insurance is cheaper if a car is paid for? It's not cheaper, you just don't need to have as much coverage.

If you're gonna buy a $20K+ car no matter if paid in full or financed make sure you have the car insured! Last thing you want is to pull out somewhere and have the rear end get out from under you, slam into something sideways and have to pay the bill 100% since you're at fault.

No such thing as cheaper insurance, just less insurance.

If you can't afford full coverage insurance then move on.

My Z at 20yo cost me 180 or 190 for full coverage with a $100.00 deductible on comp. and $500.00 on collision.

lol, im a pussy. have no need for a faster bike.

and thats all it cost you? damn. what insurance company did you go through? and how bad was your driving record?
last question for this post: what type of work were you doing to afford one? your parents cosign?

Waiting tables. parents did not cosigh I'd never let them do anything for me.
Insurance is Statefarm nothing on my record.

As far as the bike thing, it's not about a faster bike, both my old F4i and GSX-R1000 are about the same speed wise when under 100mph however one you can't take past half throttle and the other is full all out 13K+ shifts.

what's nice is you can keep the bike in 3rd 4th 5th hell even 6th gear on any backroad and easily have more then enough power to make you happy. It puts less thinking on shifting and more thinking on turning. When you want to step things up and keep the gears low 1st or 2nd on backroads holy hell is it fun. Front will comes up on most anything and anywhere in the RPM range. =)

It's just nice having a bike that runs in the 3000 rpm range when farting around town and local highways. VS the old 7K rpm of my F4i =(

how much of a down payment did you have?

and i can understand that, maybe one day but as it sits the f4i is sufficient enough, appreciate your input though.

Worrying about a down payment is nothing more then playing with #s.
Just shop around at banks and see what you can get approved for, have them cut you a check and then bust the balls of the sales guys with cash in hand. you'll get a much better deal.

One will NEVER buy what they need. They will buy what they want.

Knowing what I know now, a hot bike for the 3 seasons and a snow car is where I'm at.

The 350Z is a nice car, sure. Is it worth the cost ? That's where I run into the issue. Because there are plenty of nicer cars out there for less money. Although the financing thing is 100% correct. I now finance everything I can. I'll put a huge amount down and finance for a few months, then do an early pay-off (Not too early.. they like SOME money for interest)

I could have sworn the 350Z was one of the best bangs for the bucks out there even to this day. Where else can you find a 2 door "true" sports car for under 30K?

If you're talking about buying an older car then we're taking about apples and oranges.

so im guessing that the banks are more likely to loan the money if its for a car?
bc i cant even get approved for a credit card.

i already have what i need, got the bike and a winter car. i just want this for me. something that is nice. i love my ef and bike but this is just something extra.

and i got the insurance quote, was amazed at the price, for full coverage on a z and the liability on the civic its only around 160/month. not too bad at all.
last time i had full coverage was on my 94teggy and it was fucking 370/month. i only had full coverage for about 2 months, of course thats when i was 17.

now i just gotta find a bank that will finance my non credit having ass.

Just call around, or try Capital One, They're pretty good about starting people out. Use their card for a few months paying for everything you buy day to day with the credit card and paying it off at the end of the month. That will help. Even if it's only a $200.00 limit, spend it, pay it off spend it pay it off, 1-2-3 times a month =)

As far as no one wanting to give you a credit card, it sounds like you have really bad credit rather then no credit, I have no clue why people wouldn't want to give you even a starter credit card with a next to nothing limit.
