First i want to start off my name is stephen and i am new to honda's so any advice would be greatly appreciated. ok hers the thing, i have an 85' accord with a ES2 engine and i want to swap it out with a b18 or b16 engine. i know i would have to also get the tranny too, the thing is that i don't have a lot of money. so i am looking for a cheap used engine. i don't care how many mile it has on it as long as its running. also i don't care if its v-tec or not. so if any one can help me out that would be great. thanks.

Save your money and buy a different car if you have any hope of running a b series... sell the accord and buy the motor.. craigslist or ebay should work fine.

Exactly how much money is "not a lot of money?" The cheapest B-series you're probably going to be able to find is the non-VTEC B18 (B18A or B18B) or a B20 form a CR-V. Even a B18B is probably going to run you anywhere from $1000 at the cheapest to $2500 for a complete swap.

Also, this is not going to be a bolt in swap, you will probably need to do some fabrication on the mounts and the wiring will probably be a mess. Is the Accord carburated or fuel-injected? That will make a difference as to the complexity of the swap as well.

Is there a specific reason why you need to keep this particular car? A B-series swap into an 85 Accord would be pretty cool, but it's far from bolt-in and it won't be cheap. It's probably not the best type of swap for a Honda noob to attempt.

Like the other guy said, I'd try and sell the car and get something a bit newer. I'd vote for an 88-95 Civic, 90-93 Integra, or 90-93 Accord. You can pick up any one of those cars for fairly cheap on eBay or Craigslist, and there are tons more swap options and parts available, plus motor swaps won't be as difficult.

That's my 2 cents on the subject.

it can be done but what stated above still applies

Oh yeah, no doubt it can be done, I've seen it before as well. He said he doesn't have very much money to spend though, so I was just letting him know that it probably isn't within his price range.

the guy who has that car is on the 3geez Forums under the name legend_master if you want to ask him questions or just read up on all his mods. but i think it'll suffice to say the 82-85 accords are a different model from the 86-89 accords. the guy there is using the placeracing mount kit that was made for the 3g accord, although placeracing is out of business now so you sol on that front. it's possible to put the 3g engine (a20a3) in the 2g accord and i think the 85 se-i even came with the a20a3 (then coded bt), but i don't think the placeracing mounts would work for an 85 even if it is an se-i. and in addition to mounts, you'll need to figure out tranny linkage, axles, wiring, possibly fuel line upgrades, etc. it won't be a weekend project.

Thanks for the input. yeah i knew it wouldn't be easy, i was just hoping it would be to expensive. I guess i will just have to get it running and sell it. and yes it is carb. and thats what i am having problems with, and i think i have to rebuild it. but that won't be to expensive if i do it myself. well thanks again.
