My last accident was September 2001, up until this morning.

FUCK.

Too bright sun + dew = me not seeing the fucking FORD truck in front of me.

I was in my worthless Ford work vehicle btw... my car is safely tucked in my garage.

I find it funny how you two are roommates and it seems the only way you guys communicate is through hondaswap.

Sucks about the accident and your record :(

But glad you're not hurt

you didnt get hurt bad did ya??

Not at all, except what little pride I had left.

He was still in bed, happened around 7:40ish on my way to work. Fugger didn't get home till well after 1 am last night.

I was having a shitty week as far as stress, but I was set this morning to be ontime EVERY DAY so far.

My record will officially stand through my insurance since this'll get reported to my work ins. company, but this isn't going on my record on my personal.

and thanks.

The cool part is I got to see Jordan, I haven't seen him since we graduated in 01. He's a New Haven patrolman now.

6 years without so much as scratching another car or being hit out the window.

He was either stopped, slowing down or just starting to get back up to speed, I had just put my viser down so I could see. (I was driving directly into the morning sun), then I checked my mirror to see if I could switch lanes, as soon as I looked back up I saw a dark burgundy tailgate that said F O R D

Next thing I know I was on the brakes and pushing him 10ish feet.

I have pictures of the truck that i'll upload when I get home, but I bent the front frame support, radiator, and the hood crumpled.

His truck was so high that it missed my bumper and all the impact was taken on my hood... hence my airbags didn't go off. I never thought of them until the officer said something about the airbags not deploying.

I was only doing 25 and I wanted to switch lanes so I could pull into the church parking lot. I was just about to hit the turn signal when I hit him.

COMPLETELY my fault, I understand that, but that sun just made it impossible to see anything out that windshield.

air bags are designed to go off only when there is a certain stoppig force.
since you pushed him and slid, its correct that they didn't go off.

you need a serious front impact of momentum loss to break the magnet from the ball.

basically, theres a ball bearing held in a cup with magnetic force.
you need to hit and slow down fast enough to break the magnets hold which completes the circuit, which deploys the bags.

since you pushed and slid, you didn't have the dead stop effect needed to set the air bags off.
the cop is a moron.... and you, well, now you know how they work :)

That and I didn't hit the bumper, my hood took all of the impact. I'm about to upload the pictures of the van.

There it is...

idk kids...

i've had my front and rear bumpers/wiring off enough to know there is NO airbag sensor in either.

there is no sensor in the bumper. its under the dash on most cars tucked away. air bag sensors are NOT crash/crumple/or anything else sensors.

its just a magnetic ball hanging in a tube kinda deal
