Im trying to do an engine swap on my 94 honda civic and taking the trans out . already had problems getting my rims off because the keys to take the special nuts off were stolen so had to break those off ha. now the stupid axel / hub nut will not come off tried using a impact wrench with 180psi . tried using regular wrench and broke that. went and bought a break bar 1/2 inch and broke the head off then went to a 3/4 inch break bar and it started to bend and almost break and the axel nut still will not budge. any ideas would be appreciated .

this is probly a stupind respons but did you bend out the little retainer keeper? im sure you did but just checkn. try geting alittle heat from a propane torch and heating up the nut then try getin on it with the impact.

i had the same problem. depending what your swapping in just take the whole spindle off with the axle still in it if you need to. i've done about 100 swaps mostly for other people. and as soon as i decide to do another one for me nothing will come apart right. try using a torch first but if need be just unbolt the upper and lower control arms from the spindle and pull it out as one unit.

Beat that motherfucker with a hammer, dead center of the nut on the axle shaft, then hit it with the impact again. If that still doesn't break it loose, you might need a bigger impact. You can put all the PSI in the world behind a wimpy impact, and it's still a wimpy impact. What torque is yours rated at?

If all else fails. Just get a dremel tool with a cutoff wheel. or a grinder if it fits.;)

Check & see if the axle nut has been staked. You might have to take a flat head or chisel & wack it a few times with a hammer to get it out of the groove. Then get yourself I nice big pipe & throw that over the breaker bar for more leverage & have at it. Don't forget to swear & curse.

i had a similar problem before, try spraying some lubricant on the nut, use the impact gun and shoot clock wise to tighten it just a little and then try shooting it out, if that doesn't work, will i also sometimes hammer it just so it would loose some grip

I've tried all of that except cut it off. actually both of them are stuck come to think about it. and as far as using a big pipe on a breaker bar i've already had to buy 3 breaker bars just working on these axles. Cutting it is the next step only thing i can think of. My impact is rate at like 200 i think not sure if thats wimpy or not

200 fl/lbs is a puny ass impact gun (no offense)...my 3/8" impact is rated at around 800...

you're gonna need a LOT more than a 200 ft/lb impact to break it loose.

I did have trouble like this one time, and cut it open.

I broke clean through the head of a 1/2 wrench 180lbs of me jumping on a 6ish foot breaker bar. Lucky me it was craftsman.^_^

200 isnt wimpy for a 1/2 impact... its pathetic. im amazed you could get your lug nuts off with that.

werd. we just replaced the ball joint in my lude (finally...3 months after the bitch FELL OUT).

Just used an 1100ft/lb impact and the bitch came right off...after cutting out the notch on the hub bolt.

I used to know this guy who would come to the shop and hed used to have these wicked IR guns, i have a snap on but its old and sometimes cant handle any bolt over 19mm, anybody know where i can get some 1/2 IR impact guns?

ingersoll rand? thats an offshoot brand of either snap-on or matco i think... should be able to get it off their trucks

if 200 is that low than i'm wrong on the numbers but again i'm not sure on the numbers. I know its not bottom of the barrel so its probably more than that. but either way i just cut them off and bought new ones.
