ok im wanting to here from just army guys, im 27 years old and soon to be 28 ive been thinking off and on about joining the army. im looking for some honest opinions about if its worth it, and the + and - of it all. please legit honest opinions only no flaming or off topic b.s, thanks

go ahead. the pay sucks, the bullshit you deal with sucks, but you'll be in great physical shape.

join the air force

everything about every branch is the same save this

you get more free time in the AF and the training you get is actually accredited through Air Force Community College and is transferable to state Universities AND, Embry Riddle. That means you get college credit for going to work. If you attend school full time you can get a 4 year degree in two years

I just got out in August, I was in the army for 9 years.. I did not want to go back to Baghdad again, so decided it was time for me to leave..
With everything there are good times and bad.. Honestly, i would consider the air force also if i were you..
I was a combat medic the entire time i was in.. I liked what i did, but the 18 month Iraq deployment sucked.. ANyways, if you want more info or have more questions pm me.. If you are serious about joining the army let me know.. Ill expllain later..

welcome to the suck. if you join the army to go mp, send me a post card from iraq.

why are you wanting to join the military, let alone the army? what do you plan on doing after? and if you think you will get an easy entry into the civilian sector of police, you are wrong. you might as well save your time and just go straight there. they don't care much about the military.

i'm with silverchild. join the air force. take a nice cushy job sitting in a car and guarding the flightline. you will hate life in the army.

look man I was in 6 years, had a great career. Knocked out 3 years of college, got an associates, made Staff Sargent, lived in the UK and partied like a fiend. Let me give you some experienced advice

UNLESS YOU SPECIFICALLY WANT TO BE A CIVILIAN POLICE OFFICER SOMEDAY DO NOT BE AN MP/SP

They have a shitty job, work long hours, get shot at. Everyone says "I wanna be a cop" then six months after they finish training they say "Man I got screwed, I wish I would have listened". This applies 95% of the time.

Do not join the Army, Navy, or Marine Corps. There's nothing wrong with them but I think the reason your joining the Army is because you wanna be a "tough military guy", and for the sake of the rest of your life I suggest you get over it.

Wanna feel tough? Do some pushups, then flex in the mirror. Once you're over yourself call an AirForce recruiter, get into a career field you can see yourself doing for the rest of your life, get your training and do some college, then rotate back into the world.

well yes the main reason for wanting to be a mp, is thats what im gona do in the in normal life is a cop hopefully, thats the reason i ask to get more knowledge, about all this thnaks guys + rep

then here's what I'd do

Go Airforce and be an SP

Training and Classroom time gets you real college credit in Criminal Justice, in other branches it isn't worth shit

Finish Associates while Active using 100% tuition Assistance

Use the troops to cops program, or get out and finish your bachelor's with your GI bill

Make a civilian police force and use your VA loan to buy a house

but be warned, being a military cop sucks

HUD Good Neighbor Next Door Program

Law enforcement officers, pre-Kindergarten through 12th grade teachers and firefighters/emergency medical technicians can contribute to community revitalization while becoming homeowners through HUD's Good Neighbor Next Door Sales Program. HUD offers a substantial incentive in the form of a discount of 50% from the list price of the home. In return you must commit to live in the property for 36 months as your sole residence

@ Silver

If the armed forces of the United States of America were all pencil-necked midgets like yourself, we would not be able to enjoy the freedom and prosperity we do today.

Its because of people with AhhVtec's attitude that we are as prosperous as we are now. If he is capable of kicking some serious ass for the USA, then why would you want to discourage him?

umm excuse the fuck out of me cindy civilian, what the fuck ever have you done for your country? Why don't you shut the fuck up?

I was considering joining the AF, too. Still mulling over it. I don't really know what to add for you, but if you're like me, I like to explore ALL the options of every branch. :) *hugs* Let me know how things go. :)

Funny story:

I lived in a rented house with two room mates, one of which lost his job, so me and one of the other room mates were picking up his slack while he looked for a job. It finally got kinda tense, and we told him "GO GET A JOB, NOW!" So he dissapeared and showed up much later that afternoon. He comes walking in the door and exclaims "I GOT A JOB!!"

We say.. Cool! Where at? And he replies "I joined the ARMY!!".. We exclaim "Friggin iddiot.. Not THAT kinda job!" So, needless to say, he stayed another month and got shipped off to boot camp. I don't think he put two and two together until the moment we said that.

look at all the branches of the military, tallkto all the recuiters. Like anyother job hunt see which one offers the best stuff for your situation. Also army or marines = Iraq.

This is pretty hard core, but this is the way it goes.

Marines are front line and get shot up. They take over things that need to be taken over. Highest casualty rate.

Army comes in and supports the marines once the really hard stuff is done, they set up bases and patrols. Second highest casualty rate.

Navy sits off shore and lobbs missiles every now and again. They also fly in and bomb the crap out of things every once in a while. Low casualty rate.

Airforce is as white collar as it gets. They land on the strips that have been secured by the marines and army. They fly out, bomb the hell out of things, then fly back to base. They are rarely in the thick of things. Lowest casualty rate. Yeah, they have troops on the ground too, but they are the least likely to be clearing buildings and fighting toe to toe with the enemy.
