Looking at around $800 or less. Pretty easy to do since I don't need much.

I can order someting online if you guys post a link to something easy. But i was looking mainly at Best buy and circuit city. Frye's is good to.

Best Buy
circuitcity.com Consumer Electronics
FRYS.com

HP makes some very nice laptops. You'd be safe with just about anything in their lineup.

Stay away from celerons and semprons, of course. 2 gigs of ram or better with Vista. 1 gig or better with XP. And I wouldn't get anything with less than 128mb of non shared video ram. And a ginormous hard drive for the music thing.

P.S. Acer is crapola.

Since when is Acer crap?

I love Acers, never had any problems with em.

Brands i lean towards:

Acer
Toshiba
HP
IBM (Lenovo)

Get a dual core...if youre not doing anything too intensive the lower end dual cores are fine. I agree with the above, 1GB of RAM or better. I dont like Vista on laptops cause its a resource whore, but you can definitely tone that down if you like.

Avoid Celerons and Semperons.

i got a gateway.

$699

intel duo core
2 gig ram
160 gig hd
15.4" monitor
windows vista

good luck removing AOL and a few other pieces of crapware/spyware shit that comes pre-installed on that gateway.

Used IBM Thinkpad- make sure you get the pre-Lenovo offerings. They just don't make them like they used to- so get one of the old bulletproof ones. I bought Katie one and she loves it.

i know, there is a shitload of garbage software. i think i removed it all finally. cleared up a lot of space though.

I love my Dell. :) It's even better than my desktop. And, if you get a computer that's geared for gaming... it can handle ANYTHING. That's why I say, get one with gaming in mind. You'll thank yourself when you have an uber video card and want to watch movies.
