I put a deposit down today on a Harley 1200C Sportster.

1998, lots of miles, GREAT price. It's also dressed right, but has a solo seat. I'm going to give newer harleys a shot.

This thing was such an unbelievable price, I couldn't pass it up. So I'll try out Harley ownership for here and into next year, and surely be able to sell it forward for more than I paid.

I put the deposit down because I'm still working out the details of my zx1200 loan.

So it's got all the usual Harley Schmaltz: Screaming Eagle straight pipes, chrome flash around the oil tank, covers and battery box. Windscreen (Going off right away, I'll break it off on the way home and toss it in the bushes) and a horrible solo seat.

But, it's also got heated grips, dual front discs, rear disc, braided lines and upgraded spark. The carb was rejetted properly and it runs really well. I need to get another tank (This one is a peanut and I'll fill that thing up every hour 25 minutes), Bars (I like drag bars) and get a seat that me and my girl can sit on for a while.

BAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAA!!!

Dumbest thing I've ever heard you even consider. Go get your money back.

You have no idea what you're getting yourself into. cave man technology. HEAVY HEAVY bikes. Shitty handling. Permanently shitty timing. Fouling plugs. They shake so damn much you can't see out of your rear view mirrors. Hell, that year they still had solid motor mounts. It'll vibrate your freaking teeth at highway speed. Your hands and feet will be numb by the time you get form point A to point B.

They really do handle like shit. Go get your 250 back man. I'd much much rather see you on that than a piece of shit harley.

why are you so set on a 1200? haven't you realized that it is more bike than you really need. it's more bike than anybody really needs. save the money and take an advanced riding course.

get another 250 or the 500. the 500 looks EXACTLY like the 250 only with more power.

Let me explain shortly how shitty that buy is.

The screaming eagle pipes tells me everything. I don't care who you brought it from it was owned by a 16-20 year old and he rodded the SHIT out of it. Harleys make NO power for how big the motors are. A sportster 1200 will make about 68hp at the tire and torque.... forget about it. shit mileage, shit handling, shit build quality, shit motor, slushy shit box transmission, shit dunlop tires, shit after market parts, and worst of all.... you just bought a sportster.. so even by the harley guys you are riding a bitch's bike.

Honestly, for your own dignity.... go get your money back.

I think you need to step back from the bike buying scene and figure out WTF you want.
Clearly you have no clue. Reminds me of a little kid trying to pick from Chicken tenders, a burger, or grilled cheese from the kiddy menu.

I'm deciding between getting the 250 back or a Suzuki Boulevard M50 cruiser. (M50 Black)
then you say Suzukis are built super cheap.

Well I've found that my next sport bike is going to be light and flickable. I'm thinking along the lines of an 86/87 Interceptor 500.

Or I was talking to an importer today about swapping motors on a Derbi GPR50.

Why is it such a great deal? I have hands down more harley riding friends then sport bikes, Harleys hold their value if there's a big demand for them, a few years back there was a large demand for them, now the market is flooded with them. As far as them holding values or gaining values, in todays market.... hahahha

On a plus note Harley motors do make some of the best power to MPG out there, too bad they make almost no power.

Over all Harleys are not bad bikes, they're just not worth what they go for, of course if there's a bike like the one you're looking at that has been sitting around for way to long and turning out to be a very hard bike to sell, there can be deals to be had, but even still, they're over priced.

Why don't you just buy a Magna or Shadow for now so you have something to ride, a friend of mine just picked up a Shadow 1100 for under $3000.00 with very low miles. they can be had for cheap if you search around.

Ride that for awhile and figure out what you want. Test ride everybike you think you like and look into them, don't just show up at a dealership see something that looks nice and buy off emotions.

You are coming off as a super impulse buyer.

All this after you pitched such a big fit about how your 250 was really a sportbike, and you really wanted a 'light and flickable sportbike'? And now you're getting an old-ass Sportster, which is the bitch bike of the Harleys? Lmao...

I'd advise against getting the Harley, and suggest that perhaps you look into a Huffy for the time being.

No, this isn't the plan at all. I was looking for something light and flickable, and next year - still will. Maybe something along the lines of an Interceptor 500.

This Harley was a surprise to even me. Wasn't looking for it. But I figured that this is a good opportunity to see what it's like to own a harley.

Since when have I cared what others think ? It's not a goddam tattoo.

Yeah, that's one thing. I MAY get one of the new HD jackets with the armor, but I'm not paying $600 for a name that's for shit sure. And I'm NOT going to be one of those guys that suddenly owns nothing but HD shit.

Mugs, toothpaste, socks, trashy women. No way. I'm still who I am.

Hey man, I gotta try everything to see what kind of riding I like.

All of my friends stick with things only because "This is what I ride" They won't switch to anything because of what others may think.

Switch it up, baby. That's what I said when I got rid of the hondas for a bike and a Vega. You only live once.

If you get the opportunity, try something new. If you don't like it, you don't like it. No big deal.

Nice.. got the new topcase for it this weekend. I'm looking at trading a Tomos trike for a 1967 Vespa rally sport 150 with a 4 speed, and seeing if I can make a racing Vespa.

Also, I think I found the square headlight vespa knock off

Getting a Harley just for the sake of trying everything once is like contracting AIDS on purpose to see what it really feels like.

if you pickup that RS i'll buy it from you.

canary yellowwwwwwww :)

Not an easy one to work with. It's got "A motor for an 8 inch wheel, but it has 10 inch wheels" Whatever the hell that means. I'm sure it has more to do with the whole thing than just some gearing.

But like I told you on IM, I have a friend that has like 30 of these things. If you are looking for something specific, lemme know. And next weekend if you want we can meet up at Scooter Centrale.

nice people down there. But, the owner won't be around this weekend. He's doing some sort of scooter thing in Arizona.
