In the process of buying some parts for my H22A for a rebuild, on line though I only see parts for a H22A1 (USDM) and not for the H22A (JDM). My question is since the JDM H22A, the motor I have has a higher compression than the USDM motor. What exactly could I use form a USDM H22A1 without changing anything about my JDM. I believe I can use most parts from a USDM motor like the main and rod bearings, and all gaskets and seals etc. However, I think I can not use the rings and pistons from a H22A1 without altering the JDM 10.6.1 compression. Anyone know for sure exactly what is interchangeable from a USDM motor without affecting my JDM compression.

Everything between the two engines is interchangeable. You are correct about the pistons though. You can put H22A1 pistons in your H22A, you just lose some compression. Rings are fine though, you can order and use rings from the USDM motor.

be careful when switching pistons. h22's have two different sizes in bore A and B.

the A bore is 87mm
the B bore is 87.05mm

if you but the b bore piston into the a bore cylinder you are going to have a bunch of problems.

for example my motor is abba...otheres may be bbbb or aaaa or aabb etc. so be sure that you are putting the correct pistons into the correct holes.

where is the stamp or marking to determin which is which?
on the block? on the pistons them selfs?

it is on the top of the block. the head sits on top of the markings so you will have to remove the head to tell. after you get the head gasket off you will see it. i cant remember the exact location...but its there. i think it is on the tranny side.

H22A1 head markings

I have a head that is suppoed to be a H22A1. Where can you check the markings on the head to make sure?
this one has "PT2: HF-1 6A"
