hey wadup? i need help with this... i got a dohc zc in my 89 civic hatch... but i need to do a tranny swap and i was wondering whats some good trannys to go with, and whats an easy way to swap a tranny without removeing the engine?

thnx

ya thats what i thought, but the problem is finding one, and if i could afford it... the only tranny that i found thats cheap is one from torontoJDM.com.. they have a d15b2 for $200

which is cheap, and thats what i currently have on my zc, but the tranny i have right now is grinding in 2nd and 3rd... and sometimes ill press the gas and the car will rev up and not pull, and i think its from that 200k tranny..

so would u guys think a d15b2 trany would be decent? or no?

and whats an easy way to do a tranny swap? i was thinking if i jacked up the car and put another jack under the engine and undo the front, back and tranny mount and lower the tranny side down... would this work?

thanks, and sorry for writeing so much

no help yet??? one more question that im prity sure wont work at all but i found a 92-95 sohc si tranny for $100... but would that fit on my 89 zc? thanks

won't work - different mounts and uses hydraulic actuated clutch where yours is cable actuated - you could buy a kit to convert it so that it would work in your car, but not worth the money imo

sounds to me from your description that you have a clutch problem more than a transmission problem - if it revs up and doesn't go anywhere, the clutch is slipping - have you tried adjusting the clutch? could be that the clutch is just shot - without a properly working clutch, it is going to grind gears - hopefully, you haven't ground on them enough to hurt the transmission - normally, grinding gears starts from having an improperly adjusted clutch, not fully depressing the clutch pedal when you shift, a worn out clutch or sloppy shift linkage - continued long enough, you ruin the synchros in the transmission

$200 bux for a dx tranny is a bum deal. Craigslist around...you'll find an si/ex tranny for around that or a little less

well it is an old ass tranny with 200k+ miles on it.... but i just put in a new 6 prong clutch, i dont remeber what stage... im not sure if its ajusted right, but this problem has barely started... so im not sure what it can be, the gears grinded ever sence i got the car even when it had the old d15b2 engine in it..... so you think i should find a si tranny on craigslist, but should i use this clutch that i have now or replace it, the only reson i dont trust this clutch it cuz it got it from ebay... but it never did this problem when i instaled it...

and is whats an easy way to do a tranny swap?
last question...
whats the difference from a dx and si tranny? and why is the si better? cuz my dx is alright i gess, i can hit 35 in first 65 in second and 100 in 3rd, and idont rely kno the rest, but what could an si do?

thnks for all the help

DX and SI transmission, the difference is the gear ratio thats it....
I remember looking at the gear ratio on a website

DX tranny was 3.87
SI tranny was 4.37

FINAL GEAR!!!

as for 1st-4th same ratio's, 5th for an DX is a little lower than an SI, this is all i remember....

Taking out a transmission is SIMPLE, like people say, if your good its done in 1 day....Just got mine done a week ago...out of a crowded 91 CRX runs perfect..

My way of doing things...quick walk through....

Took 2 jacks with 2 jack stands....place a hard woodboard or something familiar just to fit for the OIL PAN to sit on with some cushions...Hit out the pin for the linkage, place the other jack under the transmission, jack up just enough so it lifts it off the mounts so there wouldnt be so much pressure taking off the bolts....take out starter before you start on mounts...take out speedometer cable which HAS A CLIP on the tranny THAT HOLDS IT..(I ruined my speedo by trying to yank it out knowing the clip holds it in place) Clutch cable comes off easy by just un-screwing the holder and slide it off the tranny fork....Unbolt the 5 bolts that holds the tranny, pry it with a thin fat flat head slowly all the way around the tranny....There is 2 dowel pin that holds the transmission also, slip the tranny off until those 2 pins are clear then lower it down with jack careful not to damage the pressure plate with the main shaft..(ANOTHER PERSON HAS TO HOLD THE TRANNY AND SLOWLY LOWER THE TRANNY)

NOTE: DONT RUSH THINGS....youll end up with more problems...

Took me 2 days, first timer under the hood of an CRX!! CROWDED LITTLE BASTARD...^_^ GOODLUCK!!!

alright cool, thanks for all the info, i got everything i needed... you guys where a great help...

so you think i still would be fine for geting a dx tranny instead of an si... cuz when raceing i never get past 3rd or 4th gear anyways

due to the shorter gearing of the Si transmission, the car will accelerate quicker than it would with a DX transmission - won't run as fast in each gear, but will get there a lot quicker
