Show everyone that you can handle a stick.

what are girls that drive stick s'posed to do though? ps i carpool with a guy who can't drive stickshift, wtf. i'm seriously considering training him but i don't want teh damage to my CRX ;)

i cant for the life of me figure out how people can't drive standard... i mean if you only have one leg, and are missing an arm, then ok then you get a pass.... but other than that there is no excuse other than being a non driving asshat

i understand a lot of people dont like to drive manual transmission vehicles... maybe they sit in a shit ton of traffic during their commute and cant deal with the frustration of constantly clutching and shifting from first to second only to go back to neutral again, over and over for 45 minutes... i understand that form of reasoning... i still think that they are flaming wuss bags... but i understand... but people who flat out dont know how to drive a stick shift have pretty much failed at life and are missing out on the joy of actually driving a vehicle rather than simply controlling the steering wheel and otherwise just being along for the ride
not to mention what the hell are those people going to do in an emergency situation where they have to drive one
for instance... lets say you are out with a friend somewhere, your friend drove their manual shift car, your friend rolls their ankle and sprains the shit out of it, they cant put any pressure on it and are in too much pain to drive, they need you to bring them to the hospital to get their ankle taken care of... but you don't know how to drive their car... or maybe you are out at a bar and your friend gets too shitfaced to drive and you are sober...

drivers license tests should have to be taken on a manual shift vehicle... that way everyone at least knows how to drive one... they might not be good at it... but at least they will have an idea

I think this is a big part of it, really. A lot of people don't WANT driving to be an interactive experience, so they can pay minimal attention to it and try to multitask while in transit from point A to point B. Hence the ridiculous level of eating/makeup application/cell phone talking/ass-hattery that goes on while people drive in everyday life. Personally, I think automatic transmissions have their place, but unless you need one for a disability or other reason, all cars should come with manual transmissions only. Manual transmissions help prevent you from distracting yourself from what you should be fucking doing: driving your goddamn car effectively and safely.

I disagree. While I love MTs, and I will most likely only buy MTs for my personal cars (save for maybe a truck), I don't think I could handle a MT work vehicle.

Yes I talk on the phone while driving at work. It's unavoidable. If every vehicle came with an MT, it'd actually distract me more to have to shift while trying to get directions/my next job.

99% of the time I call in and get my next job before I start my journey, but I am talking about when I am called.

I'm sorry, but in CA you have to pass the ultimate driving exam: Drive a manual, merging on the freeway, holding your starbucks in one hand, talk on the phone using your shoulder, shave, and flip off the driver who won't let you in. If you can successfully do all this, you can drive in CA. :p

Seriously though, I hate traffic/toting kids with a MT, but I've done it for years til I got the Fit. I think next car I get will be a MT just because I prefer it. It's actually close to a deal breaker if it isn't. Hell, I didn't want an AT Fit until I really 'convinced' myself to get one.

Every car ive bought has been an MT. My next car is probably gonna be a Fit, and i will have that in AT. My commute kills me, and after 6 years of going through dallas traffic with a MT, i wanna be able to just let off and put on the brake in traffic.

You have never driven in new york city, at 5pm, on a monday.

But thats ok - when I still had my 240, driving around here made me miserable. With a slushbox rental car it wasnt so bad.

and yes driving in the city during rush hour sucks moose nuts... but i still wont go to an automatic

my statement was not quite so much a disgust for people who know how to drive stick and choose not to, as it was more towards people who simply dont know how to drive stick

Whats next, a post on your disgust for people who don't like lower back tattoo's on hot women? ;)
