i think i could have understood what he was talking about had he not talked so damn fast!

also, made me want to go take chem 151 again, lol.

i'm in awe, because he never once said 'uh' or any other wasteful utterance..he barely breathed!..the man was obviously brilliant and not even a little bit senile...sad he's passed, though my guess is now he knows all of the answers to the questions the rest of us have never even dreamt to ask. ps i totally would have taken chem151 from him, and maybe i wouldn't have dropped out ;).

if I had a dollar for everytime some smooth talking old man started talking about these remarkably simple "machines" built out of household items.. and THEN started going on and on about the oil crisis I would have thousands of dollars.

He's a quack, and he's showing non-data mixed with anecdotes about how his lab runs into so many problems "from the man" mixed with elementary nuclear science.

I can do that, and with fewer wasteful utterances. I half expected him to start on about zeropoint.

Fortunately this guy isn't Hutchison, talking about Zero Point Energy, when all he was doing was deriving it chemically and through a few, more or less odd means. At least he didn't go to far of blabbering into metaphysics. For a few minutes I was afraid he was.
But he did get a few things right, or at least attempting, It's 3 am and I managed to sit through about 30 minutes of it,
RECORD TIME FOR ME ON A LECTURE!.
Shit, just give me a book, I'd rather read what he said rather then trying to interpret it. I'll watch the rest when I'm competent and can cite some odd stuff and make this thread seem intreresting.

:shuriken:I bet a ninja assassinated him.

Did I make any sense?

I have no idea what celerity is talking about.

Brussard is simply talking about high power magnets reducing the space in which atoms travel. Those magnets also force the atoms together in order to increase the possibility of fusion. Its a very simple concept, and its really interesting...especially if it can become a 'stable' reaction (meaning that the reaction lasts longer than a millisecond).

The man makes a lot of sense and if Polywell got the same funding that Tokamak does, im quite sure we wouldnt even be discussing whether or not this is a viable option...becuase it would already be in use.

Agreed, but in a way it almost seemed like it was heading the way celerity was stating, seeing I only sat through about 30 minutes of it.

thats not how it went...that lecture is pure HOW a polywell reactor works, and what some of the fundamental problems are with other designs (specifically designs close to his). It is impossible to talk about the implications of stable fusion without mentioning the fact that it can get rid of the dependence on oil. I think he might have mentioned oil 3 times in an hour and a half...now he did mention how Tocamak gets more funding about a dozen times...but i can still see how that would come up in a lecture on polywell fusion.

personally i think it's worth listening to the entire lecture - and there are some supportive pictures that prove the research. i feel like this is a physics nut doing what he does best, defying the norm, and breaking thought patterns. you can open your mind and consider the possibilities, or you can sit back and assume he's a quack. both are legit responses, but only one entertains the concept of 'what if' which i pretty much live for. i'm glad you posted this, reikoshea. i don't have $200 mil sitting around but if i did, i'd have funded the dude, if just to see whether or not it was possible. that's what we humans do best..we dream, and try stuff.

im really surprised that he hasnt at least gotten private funding....i guess its too late for that now.
