You want to buy a brand new car just to swap it? I'm not sure if I like that design.

Just buy an insight that took a crap on someone.
That would cost you next to nothing.:D

alright i was on Honda-Portal Honda Engine Specifications, Honda videos, engines, specs and was looking at the concept car the cr-z!!!! thats right the cr-x is back baby except it is a hybrid!!! i can not wait to get my hands on one of those and stick a k20 in it!!! whats everyones opinion??? i can tell one one thing as soon as those come out i and getting myself a loan and buying one!!!!

That's going to immediately void the warranty. Plus, we don't know what engine the final version will have, as far as know, it's still in the concept stage.

what I meant was swap out the engine from the insight for a K series. I know its been done before, but a lot more cost effiecent. Plus the CR-Z, may come with something better. You never know, but if you have that much cash laying around. Go for it^_^

ha actually i dont have that much money i am practicly broke college student!! but they should sirously put like the h22 or something like that in it but you know they wont for safty reasons becuse the car is so small!!

Shit H22 H2b CRX ;-).
The engine is never too big for the car.

As in the Honda Insight. Just look on ebay for them kinda like a reincarnation of the CRX but another fugly hybrid.

I can dig it.
It's way better looking than their recent Civic Si....& the Insight? Hurl.

I still have hope that they'll bring back the 'Rex....
Dear Soichiro! Don't let them make it a hybrid! And for great honor, put the shifter back on the floor!

this thread sucks.

they aren't even going to make this car. it would be a pain in the ass to put an h22 into it. why not just leave it alone and drive it? oh, and if you dont' know what an insight is, you really shouldn't even considering trying to do a swap because you dont' know much about hondas.

:concur:

i love how everyone on here bashes the hell out of the insight, even though most have never even sat in one let alone driven one
the insight was more than capable of putting people to shame as long as you know how to drive
if you are looking for a drag car... then you are correct its a slow pile of shit (although i did beat several of the ricers around town who thought they were being funny reving on the hybrid at stoplights)
but if you are looking for a car capable of beating up some back roads and putting a lot of other people in far more capable cares to shame, the insight was great
the tires were thin as hell and had shitty (soft) sidewalls
the suspension was ok (nothing to write home about)
the brakes were ok but overheated somewhat quickly (poor venting from the aerodynamic wheels)
all of this added up to a car that you had to drive WELL if you wanted to drive it fast
you had to hit the right line on the corner so you could go through it at as much speed as possible, you had to know exactly how much brakes you needed to get down to the speed that you could take that corner with, you couldnt scrub off too much speed though because it was a pain in the ass trying to get it back, the insight truly was a "velocity car"
it took a bit of time to learn how to drive that car fast... but if you can drive an insight fast, you can drive just about anything fast...
i embarrassed a lot of people in that car on back roads and even a few at autocross (not to mention the 5 cops that i outran with it)

people have no fucking imagination
everyone talks about swapping K/B/H engines into the insight... why?? its pointless
turbo the stock engine... theres plenty of people out there who have done it... and it was done cheap... the cars run 14.### 1/4 miles on less than 6lbs of boost... AND STILL GET 55MPG!!!
or if you just NEED to change the engine, swap in the 4cyl from the civic hybrid... similar power to what the turbo'd ones are putting down but still NA... want more? turbo that

most of being faster involves improving yourself... but everyone automatically assumes the problem is the car or that the answer is more power... (i guess if you live your life 1/4 mile at a time that might be true... but straight line racing is just SO FUCKING BORING... i would rather hit a hairpin at 60mph with the tires screaming at the edge of adhesion, or an off camber curve at 100mph with the car threatening to skip to the outside at any moment, than cross the 1/4 mile marker at 140mph)
9 times out of 10 the car is far more capable than the driver
when the driver does reach the limits of the car, brakes, suspension, and tires will do far more towards making the car faster (with a skilled driver) than more power will... when you have a solid chassis with good brakes suspension and traction, that you are able to drive at its limits, then you should start thinking about more power
but this is a whole different argument for another thread

hybrids do suck... but for a completely different reason that has to do with lifespan and cost of repair of the IMA system
as i posted in the other CR-Z thread
having owned a hybrid... i have come to the oppinion, FUCK HYBRIDS

they have decent power and excelent gas milage... but they also have a lifespan... and if you wear out or break anything in the hybrid system get ready to grab your ankles
replacing the IMA system on an insight is up around $10,000.00
the battery alone is about $2000.00
the cat is $1200.00 and it burns out extra quick because the engine runs so lean (hot)

hybrids are great as long as you can sell or total the car while its still worth something
the great feeling of getting 60mpg is effectively offset knowing that the check engine light that is glowing in your face is going to cost you no less than $1200.00 to repair... and it is further deminished by the knowlege that with 135000 miles your cars IMA system is waiting to shit itself at any given moment, and if it does your super cool eco-box isnt worth its recycled weight for its aluminum body... and that while idiots might be willing to pay $12000.00 for a used 2000 with 135000 miles on it they wont pay dick for that car with a CEL or a dead IMA system

the car was cool and i loved it for 90% of our relationship... but as it neared its end my love turned into a blinding fear that i was going to be stuck with a $10000.00 paperweight

i will not buy another hybrid vehicle unless its IMA syste has a lifetime warranty

and buying a new hybrid is just stupid unless you are planning to spend $XXXXXX on a car and the hybrid happens to fall into that price point
when i ought mine i was looking for a small efficient car and i was willing to spend $10000.00 the insight fit that price point and was the most efficient in the world at the time... i bought it and i thouroughly enjoyed it... but i am glad that i totaled it while it was still worth something

anyone considering a hybrid should do some serious research and run the numbers first to see if they really are going to save anything or if they are going to end up getting fucked over in the long run

Agreed. Plus, the Insight even looks good if you remove those ugly rear wheel skirts and replace them with custom fiberglass inserts that match the body lines.

Someone needs to manufacture those.

E_SolSi, I love your posts, dude. Although long, almost always informative & capable of ending most arguments.

That said:

Yeah, that sounds like a ~great~ car!

On the other hand, I do agree w/ you on the corner carving vs. straight line being more fun. You put it very well. I'm also sure that you didn't mean to imply that 1/4 mile racing is easy.

Agreed. Plus, the Insight even looks good if you remove those ugly rear wheel skirts....

^^ x2! I know it drops the drag coeffecient & yada yada yada....but all I see when I look at them is this:

Not sexy.
Torco_distance.jpg

But then again, they are slippery bastards....

:::edit:::

Found this on wiki. I thought I had seen a list of straight drag coefficiency , but couldn't find it again for this post. This is the top ten from the list of coefficient times frontal area. The Insight is a far second behind the EV1...but, hey, look at that! The 'Rex is a pretty close third beating out lambo's & stuff! WERD!

thanks :)

Yeah, that sounds like a ~great~ car!

indeed... but 2 of those issues would have been easy to fix by simply switching to a different rim/tire
unfortunately no one really makes shit for suspension for them
oddly enough theres not a lot of people buying insights to drive them the way i did :shrug2:

not necessarily "easy" just boring... drag racing does take a good amount of skill and timing... (but so does every other type of racing)
and the shittiest part of drag racing is the better and faster you get, the shorter the experience is :(

My only defense for 1/4mi, because I do like to watch, is that it's racing distilled. In keeping w/ the alcohol metaphor, some people like a fine wine w/ complex & deep flavors while others like, say, cheap domestic beer (NASCAR) or liquor (drag).

Knowhatimean?
