if there is an abandoned vehicle that has just been sitting around, is there a way you claim it?

there are 2 that i have seen. 1 is an older vespa that is sitting in this parking garage. it hasn't moved for many months.

the other is a 350z that has a blown tire and is riding on the rim. it's in a grocery store parking lot. looks as if it was stolen then dropped off. it's covered with leaves and dirt.

not quite sure how you'd get a title for them, either.
apply for a lost title.
VESPA!??!!?!?!?!? gimmegimmegimme!
it's kind of funny. i told my gf that we should just jack it and repaint it. then get a new license plate. she thought i was shady. 2 days later she told me that she wants one and that we should find a way to get it legally.

u can has the vespa if i can has the z? :D
the z is built up a little. it has some bronze 19's with a lip. front passenger tires is rolled off the wheel. thats why i think it was stolen. it also has exhaust and a bunch of stickers on the fenders.

sounds like it should go reeeel nice wif mah gold tooth.

don't fuck with the 350z
i would call the cops on that
someone is prob crushed over their stolen car

mechanics lien depends on the state, but if its in a garage it prob belongs to someone who stores it there

Well, you can only file for a "lost title" in the original owner's name. That won't do you any good. Do a license plate search on it at the dmv / tax assessor's office.. Find the owner, call them up and say "Hey.. that car you abandoned, gimme!" Then, work out a deal from there.

A mechanic's lean is only if you've worked on it and / or stored it. If it was abandoned on your property, it could work, but not if its just sitting in some random parking lot somewhere.

Your only option is to track down the owner and see what the hell is going on.

grab the vin from the dash.
go to the dmv
ask them to run the vin for you and tell them the situation.

I need that vespa. Ship it.

I'm going through this same thing. my GPZ600 was abandoned, and I'm working out the title.

It's not so bad, so far. But CT DMV is famously permissive.

Take it, find a wrecked one, swap vins, and get it registered. I know not exactly legal but it could work. Also check your states laws, sometimes older vehicles and other vehicles don't need titles. If it fits one of these vehicles do what you have to do to make a fake bill of sales and get the fucker registered, again probably not legal.

There's a Daewoo that's been sitting at the end of my dad's driveway for over a year now. We were gonna try and get the title, but then we realized that it's a daewoo and any effort is more effort than it's worth.

up in WA, there are a ton of sweet looking 240/260/280Z's for sale right now...just snag one of them...and make the old lady happy.
