So some of my clients happen to be gas stations. The one I am most familiar with has explain to me they have 3 tanks. One is filled with 87 octane, one with 93 octane, and then the diesel.

He only offers Regular, Mid and Super
Regular = 87
Super = 93
and Mid = 89, this rating is achieved by using 60% 87, and 40% 93

It would appear that 91 would be 40% 87 and 60% 93

So this morning I stopped to get gas. The 93 button didn't work so instead of moving my truck I settled for 89. Then while I was filling I glanced at the prices.

87 = 2.88
89 = 3.11
93 = 3.21

Using the above percentage one gallon of 89 with the same markup as 87 and 93 should result in a price of 3.01 instead of 3.11. So gas stations are making an extra 10 cents per gallon on 89.

Cliffs: Don't buy mid grade. They're raping you in the ass for an extra 10 cents per gallon.

They're not getting a decent margin from the distributors, therefore when OPEC and the distributors stateside posted the highest yielding gains the other quarter, the gas stations really saw none of those profits.

They're just trying to make their money however they can and right now stations figure if you opted for a premium car that takes premium, you won't mind paying the extra few cents to get your premium gas.

what are you talking about man?
gas stations might get a small margin, but they deal in bulk, and most of their profit comes from their ridiculous margins on in store items

and i'm not talking about premium gas, i see from the invoices that premium has risen from their suppliers so they have to charge more, but this 10cent/gallon on 89 is direct profit

all my clients that run gas stations have nothing to complain about

gas stations pretty much don't make shit on gas. its the snacks smokes and drinks they make money on.

Uh I'm talking about pretty much what the fuck I said and what I know about. :)

Which is what you repeated verbatim and then questioned me. :)

You were talking about premium gas and thats what I spoke of, the thread wasn't "OMG they mark their candy and ciggs up!!!1111" :)

I always figured they're bumping the prices on 89 and 91 in order to lower prices on 87 to pull customers with a low price on the sign.

a gas station i frequent actually is alot cheaper for 87 than pretty much everyone in the area, but they are a little more expensive for 89/91/93.

they also cost a little more if you use a card for the transaction.

with Shell the price difference from 89 to 93 is larger than 10cents IIRC; is "V-Power" worth it?
