if your 88 still has the 88 transmission, you will need to change the clutch in order to use the 90 transmission - different splines on the input shaft between 88 and 90

ok so one person says its direct fit, yet another says spline change? if true. how hard is it to change the input shafts?

you don't need to change input shafts (not an easy job) - just get a clutch disc for 89 Si or swap the flywheel, pressure plate and clutch disc from your 90 onto the 88 - 90 uses a larger diameter clutch than the 88-89
