Shell: 1987 Honda CRX Si

Front end damage, but repaired and strait. Not a good show car, but it will be light enough and have enough grip to be competitive in professional motorsports. Rust content on the entire car is only a few dime sized spots on the drivers side rear wheel well, repaired once, but the bubbles are coming back. The sunroof was removed and a cover plate of sheet metal was riveted to the roof, but later removed and a mint rust free sunroof panel installed, the drilled out holes were only filled and smoothed with bondo, then painted over...but that cheap spray paint only lasted 3 years in the sun and needs a fresh coat of paint. Once again the sunroof is starting to rust. The body needs a paint job due to the cracking of the spray paint used....if you decide you need a fresh paint to be blinging, then do it. The doors were mint, but were traded for an engine a few years ago. I have fresh doors that needs to be adjusted, and remounted to the body, they are partially attached now. The lock will need to be changed. All the windows on the car is mint. The front windshield was replaced back in 2000 due to the accident the car endured in 1999. And was finished off when the hood latch failed and slapped the window. Fresh hood on the car, and a spare hood that can be cut up or modified for any use will go with the car. The signature CRX Si wing has been removed, but will also go with the car if I can find it.. On Redpepperracing.com, the Mugen Carbon Fiber reproduction wing can be bought from a member on there, and it is hot. The rear hatch struts were bought new, and they pop up the hatch fast and hold it. I have fresh lower door skins for the car in a box, and they will need to be painted if you paint the car. I also have a full set of door/hatch/ingnition switch and keys for the car somewhere., and whats on the car as well, but the doors will need a different key, which I have somewhere in the garage. I have a cabinet of spare tail-lights, head lights, and corner lights, mirrors, c-pillar covers and other various parts that I have collected over the years. The real kicker is a rare 1st gen CRX Mugen Pro rear garnish that I found in Japan, I had one fellow request that I buy it for him for his car, but my wife was unavailable to bid on it, and then a few months later another one came up for auction...and we got it, but it wasn't cheap...and I've been hording it ever since...because I was eventually was going to make this CRX the hottest thing since sex was invented. I also have a spare front and rear bumper covers that could use some work, as well as the ones on the car...the car was raced many times, and used for many years, so they show their age. I have about 3 steering wheels for this car, 2 stock steering wheels, and a super mint Mugen steering wheel that also was a high dollar item, I paid more for that steering wheel than I paid for my apartments rent. And it is very well worth it. I also have a late 1980's Mugen shift knob in the car, it was also just a lucky find...and its something sweet to fondle when a female passenger is not available. The seats are stock seats, but re-padded for a stiff support on the drivers side The car will also come with a plethora of interior parts, including door panels, fresh carpet(installed), and rear spare tire covers. One was cut to accept some speakers, and the carpet was also trimmed to allow sound to pass thru it. I also have the rare rear speaker brackets, painted red, and some decent speakers in them...I can't remember if they were Pioneers or Kenwoods, but they sound great. and the rear shock tower covers with the speaker grills already on them...although they do need to be cleaned up, and sprayed with some nice paint. The interior can be immaculate if some time was spent on it, or it can be stripped out and parted out if your building a race car..your choice...all the parts will be sold with the car. All the plastic body panels are fresh or new The passenger side front fender was recently cracked, but repairable, and even the "H" emblems are new from Honda in Japan.

The Powerplant:

1987 1.5L D15A3 Engine, freshly rebuilt and installed. Spare engine with rod knock also included. 2 Turbo's included, one welded on a manifold, and another one that is mint and a spare mint manifold to weld it to, or to fabricate a bolt on plate. Pre-plumbed for the turbo, I just never got around to fully hooking it up. The fresh engine is dripping oil, from where it is plumbed up to. Right now there is an idling issue, and I don't have the time to play with it anymore. It does run, and sounds mean and peppy in it's current N/A state. I was wanting to break the motor in before I put the turbo on... The head has been fully reworked with fresh valves, new seals, 5 layer metal head gasket, Was ported and polished a tad to match the intake runners, and I smoothed out the exhaust ports. Larger fuel injectors from an Integra, and I fabbed up a FPR to make them very tunable. Other things like a pilar gage pod, a boost gage, turbo timer, are also installed. A new half radiator is installed, and I needed to install the new flat electric fan...just never got to it.

The transmission:

Stock in all aspects, except a rebuilt many times....I finished rebuilding it for the fourth time this last winter, and it's clean and should shift like butter. But while installing it, I think one of the axle seals tore...so it's leaking a bit. Fresher lower miled gears from another trany was installed, and it also has the Phantom Grip LSD in there that does work perfect for this car...I've never had any problems with it. I run Mobil 1 full synthetic ATF in it.

Footwork:

Ohhh boy...this car is a gripper. Nothing but sticking to corners and hugging the road. First the car has mounted on it the rare Mugen CF-48's 13x5.5 (11 lbs), black centers, and polished lip...slightly weathered, but will clean up great for a show. I have the Aerodisks for them, along with the hardware to mount them on, but I don't have any center caps for them. They have Advan A005 180/50/r13 (10 lbs each)tires on them...but slightly old, but should last a few events for autocross. 21 pounds per tire and wheel, perfect for autocross...light and grippy. And two new Hoosiers to replace them when you do chord these tires. I will also toss in some Watanabe RS-8's 14x6.5, needs cleaned up and a few dings burnished out of the lips, but appear round and strait. I started to clean them up, but got caught up in some other time consuming project. Both sets of rims are era correct for the car and are super rare to find, and are both from Japan. They killed my wallet to get. And on to the suspension. 4 brand new Tokico Illumina 5 way adjustable shocks, rear coil over's, 450 lb springs in the rear, and the stock torsion tube in the fronts. I installed all new poli bushings on car, and made some motor mounts...so this car is not set up for any type of comfort.

The bad...

The only thing the car doesn't have is a cage or roll bar...any local shop can make one for about $1000, or you can source a cheap one for about $200. Oil leaks from the turbo plumbing, and tranny fluid leaks from tranny. An irradic idle is happening, and I'm too tired to fix it. Rust is no issue on this car if you can fix a common wheel well honda rust spot. Other than that...just break the engine in properly, and add the tubo goodies that I have for the car and your on your way to being competitive for autocross or what every you want to do with the car.

The good...

Your going to get a project car that has countless hours of blood, sweat, tears, and money dumped into it...for half of what it is worth. Give the car a few weekends of TLC, and send it to get a paint job, and your rolling in a car that looks hot, very few are left, and is a major competitor in the sport of racing. And it will out corner anything with the right tires and a few more minor upgrades. Light, fast, and fun.

The Worst...

This car is not for some teenage to learn to drive with, unless they have skills and understands how it will act under pressure. This car is also not for people who have kidney problems. This car is also not for a person who wants good MPG, the temptation to hit the peddle after it has been fitted with the turbo and tuned...is too much..and the wallet will not like the gas stations. Even though I believe it will get about 30 MPG if the turbo doesn't go on, but if the parts are there...then the temptation will also be there, and it might get 20 mpg if tuned properly.

Parts list...

full rebuilt engine....done it myself...estimated value $700
full rebuilt transmission...done it myself..est value $600
Phantom Grip LSD... $250
ACT Clutch... $200
Lightened stock flywheel... $200
2 new Axles. $150
4 new Tokico Illumina's... $400
rear coil overs set with 400lb springs... $300
Cusco Front strut bar.. $100
new Half radiator and external filler... $150
Mugen CF-48 13x5.5 wheels with aerodisks... $700
Mugen Shift knob (rare leather)... $200
Mugen Steering wheel (rare leather)... $700 ( yes...I paid $700 for a damn steering wheel :) )
Mugen Center rear garnish (rare and clean)... $300
fresh carpet... $100
extra parts that can fill a truck... $unknown
98% Rust free shell in the North East... $1000
other rare parts and fab work done to the car....too many to list...but alot.
Turbo setup and parts for another turbo setup... $900

over $7000...maybe close to $8000 for everything...

I like cash, but I really could use a decent truck (Toyota or Nissan) to tow a trailer with a car on it, and give me no problems for at least a year or two. I can also sale the car without the rare parts..because I know I could prolly get more for them there. I'm open to other offers as well.

now for some pictures...

For you...I almost would have gave you the car...because I know you and your driving abilities...but there would have been a few stipulations....

Like...you have to finish building it to our specs, I would co-drive it when I have a day off from work...I would get to pimp it at a few meets or events, and you use it to get to nationals... and you can use the left over turbo's for what ever.;)

I'd give it to Steve...but it would sit for another 4 years in his collection of projects, and he can't drive without hyperventilating and throwing shift knobs. :p

Luv ya Steve...but that's the best memory I'll go to my grave with.

i dont have any time to build two cars :( especially when the bitch just GAVE me the 240sx... which is now sitting in my parents backyard under a tarp.

I think I'm going to part it out...

or there will be a price drop with a few things missing...

Somebody wants the fresh exhaust manifold and the bored out fresh T25...
Another guy wants the Mugen center garnish and the Mugen shift knob...
another person is snagging the Watanabes from me...

so with those parts gone..make some offers for the other parts or the rest of the car with those items off the price.;)

$150 for a mint and clean exhaust manifold and a bored out, zero shaft play T25...your on crack. I'll sell the old welded up mani and TD04 for $150.

Might buy that turbo and mani.

Bump ... get your SCCA SOLO II car ready before the season!

Four matching wheels? How unlike you...

So you are going to install a kit on it...What about getting it running?

it runs...it just leaks oil every where...but all winter to work on it.

And I might be in the market to get something stupid for an engine...

Didn't you already rebuild this thing just a bit ago?

What do you have in plan for a motor?

If you want a hand turning a wrench, let me know. Just gotta get mine running first...

I have my head if you wanna trade something for it

Like a supertrapp

yup...it's going to be the winter project.

The Z collection sale fell thru, but Hosmer will get get one hell of deal if Tom can make sure the tires on the trailer I have are good enough to get a yellow Z, a spare engine, and some tires up to his house. Might take along the bilstien suspension and take back some other stuff he might have laying around.

I sat in my CRX today, got bored, and tossed some different wheels on it, and thought about how I felt in it compared to the other cars I have, had, and want. And the wheels fit nearly perfectly...if I had flares and some mean style to back them up. Hosmers kit fit the bill perfectly.

As for an engine...it's still up for grabs. What ever I can trade a brown half built datsun for should suffice..... prolly something thats in the area of $3-4K's.....
