Got a 1990 crx but unsure if i should swap a h22 or save the money to build up superchaged d series? thoughts???

Depends what kind of power do you want. First of all, if you're gonna stick with the D, you'd be better off going turbo.

H22A - 200 hp (BASE hp that is) stock and I believe it's a tricky install with engine bay mods required

Turbo D16z6 - can handle up to 250 hp to the wheels and costs less :)

a few people around me have turbo d-series. i wanted to do somethin a lil different but not sure what the hp numbers would be and if it will be close to the same price range as stock h22 to buildin up the d to take the supercharger?

I just looked at the JR site, and it looks like they stopped selling d-series kits:(. I'd call if you're interested. Look at spending ~2k for the base kit, and more to make it more reliable and powerful. IMO i think the fuel management for the base kit sucks ass.

The Jackson Racing blower for your car only makes 150 wheel horses; a stock H22 puts down more power than that. 93civicracer is right, it's not exactly a bolt-in swap, but then again, it's not the most difficult thing in the world either. You'd probably spend more money on the H22 swap then you would on the blower overall, but then again, once you put the blower on, what else is there to do? You can get pulleys that will allow you to run more boost, and you can get a decent intake and exhaust and do some tuning, but other than that you're pretty much done.

I'd rather start with 160-170 wheel horsepower and then supercharge, turbo, n/a build or whatever from there.

Also, turbo-charging your D is an option as well. With good tuning you can make decent power on a turbo D16 (200 wheel horse is possible).

I would agree with starting at 140-170hp then go more if you want it. turbo, SC, juice whatever floats your boat.

yeah i know that sucks:(. I just got mine a few weeks ago. I wonder if they are phasing them all out?

Well from what I read a while back jackson racing is changing from the eaton m62 roots blowers to centi designs.

Which has its goods and bads. one is Ive seen roots make more torque than centis but centis have a better hp range with them.

Centies can be intercooled roots cant but roots do make heat but now as much as a centi does.

Persionally I would love to see JR make more roots styles but in the m90 design which can be intercooled.

There is a company that intercools the current jrsc kits.
IMO the centrifugual kits for honda's suck because they only make power up top. I like the jrsc because it compliments the peaky nature of our cars with a fat low end and mid range. Plus, while not as potent as turbo, it still pulls much harder than stock up top.

depends on what he's building the car for as well, maybe he doesnt need the up top power. like if he wants to autoX it the jrsc would be great or a small t25ish turbo. h22 would be a dog to autocross unless the suspention setup is perfectly tuned. but h22 drag cars are pretty sick...

There's someone selling a D-series supercharger right now on CarolinaHondas.com I believe.

And only the H22A Type-S makes power ;) I've seen USDM H22s dyno anywhere from 135-~155whp; with JDM motors making a tad more.

There's F2D and H2B kits that'll allow you to run D or B transmission with the H22; so the weight issue wouldn't matter and it will do fine in the handling department.

Supercharged H22 with B or D-series transmission?

i wanted to do this too because of the fact that the supercharger sounds so awesome and theres no lag. but when i saw that they didn't sell them anymore sucks dick. so yeah and the i had the same idea of the H22 because of a shop around here specializes in them power to weight ratio would be awesome and a killer street car. but idk shop around maybe you can find one of them jrsc but if you do that i recently read an article about a full out b18 sc running a 10.7 on 20 pounds and little mods but hey its your choice so chose wisely

But. Only do it if you know you can do it. Don't ruin another 4th gen.

x2

A jrsc won't run more than 10psi efficiently without A TON of work, making it impractical compared to turbo for higher power levels. I would not buy one for the sound. I the only time I can barely hear mine is at high rpm's at WOT in 3rd gear +. Then again thats prolly bc my loud ass exhauts drowns it out... Don't expect it to scream like an eaton Cobra

i'm goin to be doin all the suspension first then i was goin to do the motor so i still got a lil bit of time to see what i want. i would like to have somethin that will get up and go right off the line but then again i would like somethin to pull nasty at a roll. so many things to do, so little money lol

An eaton cobra uses a m112, The 112 is a nice blower but very inefficent for anything smaller than 3.8L.

Its a nice blower but its way to large for the power it can put down.

The m62s are a nice blower. the cobalt guys are doing fine with them but then again they use a 2L.

I still say turbo your D.

Vitara Pistons
Eagle rods
Homemade or kit turbo

Good for tuning 400 whp :).
