93 Del Sol

New Member
My 1993 Del sol has the factory weather stripping on it. It is starting to deteriorate and thus, is leaking a good bit. I was wondering if there are any stores that carry the specific del sol weather strip for around the targa top and the doors. I have looked myself but have had no luck. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

is it torn at all or just getting tired?

if it is not torn you can condition the seals and that will likely solve the issue

conditioning the seals is pretty simple and should be done every month or two
go to the auto parts store and get spray on silicone lubricant, and silicone lubricant gel (often in the spark plugs area called Dielectric grease and comes in a tube like toothpaste) DO NOT GET THE ADHESIVE!!!!

grab a few soft rags

take the top off the car

spray the rubber down with the spray silicone
get it nice and saturated
now gently wipe it off... you will get a lot of black nasty shit on the rag
repeat this a few times until it looks a little better
once that is pretty clean spray a light coat on and let it sit for a few minutes untill it is mostly absorbed
next get the gel and put a decent coating on the rubber... lay it on there somewhat thick there should be a mm or 2 covering the seals
wait about 30 min (the longer the better)
wipe off any extra silicone that is not absorbed
spray a light coat on again

put the top back on

the seals should be nice again as long as they werent shot to hell before hand
the top shouldnt chatter and squeak as much if at all now either

Well, I will give it a try on the top. But my primary concern is the part where the driver side door, the top, and the A-Pillar meet. It is torn there in a few spots and the corner piece on the window track is all stuck out while the passenger side is flat as a board. What should I do because it leaks a fair amount as in a small steady stream at times.

ik this is old as hell, but im havin the same damn problem. i just went to kmart got some thin rubber weather stripping and im gonna go out tomoro and try to seal her up that way. i was a dumbass the first go round and used effin vinyl stripping

you can go to autozone and try to use their "universal" weather stripping but in the end thats just a waste of money, unless u can find a junked del sol with some weather stripping intact you're going to have to get the stuff from a dealership, i had to get the section for the windsheild and the left and right of the targa top, also i had to tighten the bolts on the door hinge behind the fender, that will raise the door up and make a better seal against the weather stripping, but my shit still leaks when it pours hard

i just got on this website since you were/are having the same problem I am having with the leaking. looks like you posted this a couple of years ago. how did you solve?

Was anyone able to resolve this? I'm going to try to silicone route listed above...

as i said above, unless the seals are torn, conditioning them regularly with the silicone will usually bring them back and keep them good

best of luck
