ambitious...but rubbish
:doh:what a week! I finally figured out my drivability issues, the throttle cable was loosely connected ( which one is correct for a B16 crx? ), I got a bunch of new vacuum hoses and was about to try to adjust my idle when I heard a wierd noise and saw my timing belt flapping and chunks started to come off it! I shut it off as fast as I could, so now I need a link or instructions to replace the timing belt on a B16, are there downloadble manuals for JDM B16's I have two helms manuals for single cam civics but cant find any B16 info though.
Also are there any slick tricks to get the crank pulley off? I dont have an impact gun ( or a garage, I work in my dirt driveway:rolleyes: ) so tricks are appreciated.

At least it fucked up in my driveway and not 65 mph!!! whew!

I used a integra type r throttle cable. Use a impact gun for pulley but others have had some really tough ones to get off. Did the belt actually break?

what kind of noise did you hear? was it the belt or metal hitting or grinding something?

If chunks were flying and it's loose, i'd suggest replacing the belt and tensioner ASAP. here's how to change the timing belt B18C Timing Belt - Honda, Acura Tech Website, tutorials, tuning and HOW-TO's. Drag racing, street racing, road racing - C-speedracing.com I know it says B18C but it's the exact same for a B16.

The only trick I can think of that will help you in your situation is gonna take two people to do. You're gonna need to stop the flywheel from spinning by having someone jam a pry bar on it from underneath the tranny where the block off plate to the flywheel is or remove the starter and try stopping it from there.

as close as I can figure, it was the belt hitting the plastic on the timing cover, I have since tried to adjust the tensioner, but I'm guessing its worn out and will have to be replaced.
since I also need tranny seals, I am wanting to pull the whole engine/tranny and start over, clean the bay and hide my wires better.
also thinking a head gasket would be a great idea.
I am going to have to bring it in to get done I think because by the time I have money for parts it will be -30 below zero and I got no garage.
I was thinking if I had as much stripped off the car as possible I could save some cash at the shop.

You have to rip apart the motor to change the head gasket. Don't do it. Don't go fixing things that aren't broken.

yeah, but with my luck I'll get the timing belt fixed for a week and blow the head gasket.:D

you can warp the head by unbolting it wrong? I know your supposed to leave it overnight to cool off before you do any head work, do you unbolt the opposite of the torque sequence?
I dont think the wife is going to let me spend any more money than absolutely neccesary at this point, she's pissed enough that we're on walking status right now.
I was thinking of bringing it to a shop near my house ( thank you AAA ) and thought if I did all the disassembly I could save some labor $$$.

Sorry to say, but Impact gun is pretty much the only way to go to get that Damn Crank pully off....

My only suggestion is have somone get in the car, toss it in 5th and have them put the brakes to the floor while you put the BIGGEST breaker bar you can find on the bolt, and have someone ELSE hit the top of the breaker with a hammer WHILE you are trying to loosen the bolt *Creating an impact effect*

Yeah you can warp the head if you don't unbolt it properly.. I'm pretty sure it's the opposite of the torque sequence but I can't remember for sure.

I wouldn't change the head gasket unless you are already having problems with something else.. B16a's are pretty strong engines I doubt you'll have issues with a head gasket going bad. And the rest you should be able to do in the driveway over a weekend.

it is indeed the opposite sequence
