Big WIll
i got a 97 sol and people are always telling me how cool it is to have such a light car, like2200 pounds. but i looked in the door jam and on the identification badge it says the GVPW is 3058 lbs!!!!!! (groos vehicle production weight)

yea it says 2522 but why is there a 500 pound difference between the sheet i looked at compared to the identification on the car??? what one should i believe?? they both seem pretty heavy for such a small car.

the only way i could truly find out is take it to a scale or something i guess!

neways thanks for the link and ur help

well because of the removable roof.. it needs more support, thus adding weight .. thats why its so heavy for such a small car

I found edmunds is a good site for car weight. They say my old EX coupe 95 was 2600 or something like that, the sticker said 3,100.. took it to a truck stop and got 2690 with driver.. so not to far off edmunds wasent!

You misunderstood what it meant. GVW is the maximum recommended weight for a vehicle, including: the weight of the vehicle itself, fuel and other fluids, passengers, and all cargo.

:concur:

The sticker should show the maximum recommended weight fully loaded w/ passengers and cargo.. which I guess is exactly what Chaz already wrote :D

The registration on my 93 sedan (yea sedan foor doors so yea) said 3500 pounds...my mom's 2000 ford taurus is much bigger and the manual for hers says 3600 pounds. My trunk has been stripped of all paneling and spare wheel tho.

If it says GVW or GVWR that isn't the curb weight.. and as far as I know the curb weight was never put onto the door jamb stamp.

I'm assuming your talking about your Civic? Your Civic doesn't weigh 3500 lbs. I have a 1992 Civic DX Sedan and it weighs 2200 lbs. The 3500 lbs is the maximum weight recommended you should have total in your vehicle. So basically if you were to weigh your car with 5 people and all their stuff loaded in the trunk, it shouldn't exceed 3500 lbs. This means your Civic probably weighs around 2300ish lbs and it's only recommended that you have 1200 lbs of cargo/people in it.
