Yay for DOHC VTEC ^_^
Just recently started noticing this issue.

When I am driving (normal, no agressiveness), I will shift the normal pattern and when I get to third gear it feels like it doesn't want to go in and then goes in.

Bought the car brand new and has about 3000 miles on it. I have grounded the tranny twice because it usually doesn't do this.

Anyone else heard/has had this issue?!?!

Go into the dealer, calmly explain to the repair desk what the problem is. Make them give you a mechanic to show the problem. Drive around for a bit until he sees the problem, then make him drive back to the dealership and ensure he has experienced the problem. Then it'll get fixed pretty quick.

That's a good idea.. if you don't get a technician in the car and show him what you're talking about they will blow you off 99% of the time. Dealerships hate to warranty anything unless they absolutely have to.

Damn- that's what I was afraid of.

I am going to need to take it in soon. The only issue I have is that it might take a bit of time for that to happen.

The thing that I DONT want to happen is that we will drive for a bit and it doesnt happen. I guess I should "hope" that this happens and they can see for themselves.
I want this resolved when its a really small problem instead of waiting til it becomes something bigger.

Yeah the best thing you can do is to try to figure out what, if anything, causes the condition and try to be able to replicate every time. If you can't show that something is wrong with a tech in the car chances are somebody will test drive it, say they couldn't duplicate the problem, and they won't do anything else.

This just made me remember I had a similar problem with an RSX-S and we couldn't find anything wrong. Of course it seems every time I drive a car for a complaint like that it doesn't show itself.. but in the end my shop told them there was nothing wrong, they threw a fit, and shop told them to get lost. So I wish you luck, and hopefully you can replicate the problem to a tech at the dealership. Make sure it's an actual technician that's going for a ride with you too otherwise they will likely blow you off. Dealerships hate to warranty anything they don't have to. And make sure to keep us updated on what happens :)

i have never had a transmission apart, but to me this sounds like a synchro-mesh problem.

i learned early in age how to drive a transmission without the clutch and if you understand this concept you understand that the gear shift will not slip in to that gear until the rpms match, which sounds similar to your discription. without the synchro mesh i am pretty sure it makes it more difficult for the transmission to find the gear you are asking for, so to speak.

although i agree this should be a warrantee issue, hopefully this might help you explain to a mechanic what it is acting like and its possible solution. :)

they'll probably say you've been abusing it by driving hard (negligence) so they have wont fix it.. goodluck though

The funny thing about that is that I more or less drive it like an old man. First nicest thing EVER (with that big a price tag :p)

I was figuring it was something like that. Before I went military I was doing Auto Tech training and ironcly that was one of the last classes I took. My thing is that its like a brand new car- why would it have issues?!?

Heh. Oh well.

u still haven't taken it in? ps wondering how many miles it had on when u bought it (lot miles) - maybe someone beat on it in a test drive..? or maybe it is the rarest of all...a honda lemon?

Unfortunatly I have not had a chance to take it in.
I been busy doing volunteer work and training here at the base.
Doesn't help I am deploying real soon @_@

I havent had any issues yet- though I been taking my time with shifts (ex. put it in gear really slowly).

@_@

Same Problem with my Si

I have a 2007 Civic Si too. Bought it brand new from Honda in February of 2007 with 4 miles on the odometer. I've been having the same problem with 3rd gear and it's been driving me crazy. It's caused me to grind third gear several times now and I know it's not because of a lack of knowing how to drive a manual. My car's got around 19,000 miles on it now, but it's been doing it since it only had a couple thousand on it. It's happened with such irregularity though that I've never brought it in to get looked at. Now, I'm really thinking I should being that I'm apparently not the only one with this problem. Did you ever get your car checked by the dealer yet and if so, what did they tell you the problem was?

Well my auto LX has this stupid issue where it stays in gear longer then I want it too, but I think the ECU remembers my driving habits.

Just take it in and explain your issue at least.

our boy gomez is deployed to iraq. won't be hearing from him here for a while... :(.

Hondaswaps boy Gomez is doing fine overseas.

Before I forget, the Army's MWR service is wonderful for Morale purposes :)

Sorry Jer, I never got a chance to take it in; I was busy as heck trying to get ready for my deployment. My father is watching my car back in the states, and he has not mentioned anything about it grinding when going to third (then again, he only starts the car up in the morning, shifts through the gears, backs it up and then forward).

If you get any further than I did, please let me know.
