98 Civic question

So I am thinking on picking up a black 1998 civic w/ 145k miles. Now im thinking on doing an engine swap and swapping in a B18C1 engine... Not only because it has less miles,but more horsepower and it would seem to make a nice project for me and my dad to do this winter! (note: the total cost of the civic and motor should be around [possibly under] $4,000)

Here are a few specs on the motor:
DOHC Vtec B18C1 GS-R engine
Complete w/ harness
Older Skunk2 Intake Manifold
90K miles
Brand new Distributor King dist., (lifetime warranty)
NGK Plugs
NGK Wires

Heres my questions
-would buying that motor for $1,000-$1,500 be a good deal?
-would the B18C1 engine drop right into the engine bay of the civic and use the same mounts? or would i need different mount?
-would the B18C1 bolt right up to and work well with the stock transmission that the original motor was hooked up to? or would it cause problems?
-lastly, about how long would it take to this swap?


or

would it just be better to take a look at a 1995 Acura Integra GSR for about $4,300 w/ 110k miles? (yes i know this is the civic section, but im sure you guys will help me make the best decision)

As far as your questions are concerned here goes..

#1- If you can get the engine around 1k it's a pretty reasonable deal as long as the engine is in good condition. For a comparison Hmotors sells the JDM GSR for $1800 + shipping http://www.hmotorsonline.com/shop/sc2000search.cgi?what=page&item=30026

#2- It will bolt into your engine compartment using a combination of your stock mounts and the GSR engine mounts.

#3- The original transmission will not work and you will need to buy a B series transmission along with the shift linkage and axles to make the swap work properly.

You're going to spend a lot less money buying a GSR than you would buying a Civic and doing a GSR swap. Personally I think if you can get a GSR in nice condition like you stated I would go for that over the stock Civic. If you have your heart set on doing a swap on the Civic you're going to need a complete changeover along these lines http://www.hmotorsonline.com/shop/sc2000search.cgi?what=page&item=30009 instead of just the engine.

The GSR swapped Civic would be faster in the beginning, but I think if you can find an Integra for around the same price as the stock Civic you'll be able to make it faster for the same cost than swapping the other car. Hope that helps....

Ah alright, thanks!

I thought it would bolt right up. Dont civics come with B16's in them? or is that a llittle bit older style civic?

also from the pictures provided the integra doesnt look to bad (has a minimal amount of rust...and some paint fading on the rear panels and spoiler...however he is asking $4300 and is pretty flexable so w/ money saved i could probably get all that touched up pretty nice

The 99+ Si comes with a B16, but that's the only one assuming you're in the US/Canada. It pretty much does bolt right in, but you can't use the D series transmission/linkage with the B series so you just need a few extra parts to make it work.

ah i get it now!

so pretty much it would be alot better just picking up a normal integra GSR if i can get it for the same price... or even less then what it would cost to swap a b18c1 into a civic

It would be a lot easier (and probably cheaper) but it's really up to you as to which one you like better I guess. Either way you go you're going to have a nice setup.
