ok i think i've decided to just build a b18c gsr engine rather than go with the type R (good choice or bad choice?) i know there are tons of stuff to do to the engine with tons of companies supplying parts. i'm lookin for an engine that produces about 200 to 250 whp and that is a daily driver. what parts should i change or leave stock. i'm not sure about turbo but i definitely want to build it to be able to handle a turbo later on. i have checked forums, blogs, faqs, and found virtually nothing the same. and i know every engine is different, but i'm just looking for a generic standard or starting point. i'm doing a full engine/tranny swap into my 94 civic. i would appreciate any ideas!!

search there are threads everywhere on this

well the easiest mods to do with out completely tearing the engine down would be cams, cam gears, intake manifold, exhaust headers and some sort of intake. with that and good tuning you should be able to make close to 200 whp. TO be able to handle boost you might want a new crank, but will definitely want to get some forged rods and pistons. That is pretty basic stuff there are always extra stuff you can do like bigger injectors bigger fuel pump new fuel rail ignition stuff....etc. But the intake cams and exhaust are pretty basic and for the most part bolt ons, the most important thing though is good tuning.

finally someone with some advice rather than telling me to go search.....cause trust me i have. so thanks for the help, i appreciate it.

If you are going to build the engine with the intention of running a turbo later don't go more aggressive than a Type R cam. You're not going to need a new crank, but depending on the amount of power you're expecting from the turbo you may need to build the bottom end. At the least I would suggest installing some ARP rod bolts while you have the oil pan off to install the turbo lines. If you are not looking for over 300 hp the stock GSR block will be fine provided you upgrade the rod bolts and get a good engine management system and tuning.

Cam gears won't get you anything until you tune the engine, which in the end would be a good idea but for now tuning your engine would be a waste of money unless your turbo project is a long time out in the future. Also don't waste your money on a header because it will become useless when you install your turbo. A fuel rail and ignition are also not needed for what you are planning on doing, fuel pump and injectors may not be either, but as far as that goes you may want to upgrade them (pump & injectors) slightly when you get your engine tuned to ensure you have enough fuel delivery to compensate for the turbo. Especially considering once you run a little bit of boost you'll probably want to go bigger later so you can prepare for that by running larger injectors & fuel pump now, and compensate for that with your tuning, then if you want to go bigger later you'll already be prepared for it. Hope that helps a little bit...

i'm still not sure on an exact amount of HP that i'm going to go for....but i am planning on a stage 2 turbo. so i guess thats something i need to decide. and thank you very much.....the info you provided is an excellent starting point for me. so thanks again for passing your knowledge on to me.
