Since the Del Sol comes with a B16a3, would I be able to fit a B18c7? Would the increased engine size be worth the money?

You do gain a lot, but I think for a lot less you could do a swap with a B20, and do a VTEC head swap/conversion, and be at almost the same HP, quite a bit more torque, for a lot less money.

An ITR engine complete swap is ~5,000 before you do any labor. I've been quoted 3,000 including labor to put in a B20, and then you can do the VTEC head swap/conversion, and be out the other side with a grand still left in your pocket.

Also, if you blow the engine, the B20 is only about 800 to replace.

I have someone putting the engine in as a favor. I just got to sell him my 88 crx.

It would definitely be worth it... you might also consider the B18C1 GSR engine as a less expensive alternative that's close to the power of the ITR. I think it would definitely be worth the money to swap to a high output B series.

I'm going to be using it for streets and will be looking into a turbo further down the line.
If you plan on turboing down the line I wouldn't get a Type R. Compression is too high for boost in a stock form and rebuilding it for turbo isn't the most cost effective. If you plan to boost later get a GSR. Only 20 less hp than the Type R, cheaper, and good for turbo in stock form or if you rebuild.

I have only just begun classes in auto at my local JC and still unsure of both what i want and if i am capable of doing such. I was recently looking into buying the B16B Type R setup fopr the del sol, but have questions about vtec with turbo. I was told by someone to avoid boosting vtecs, said they didn't go well together. Any truth to that?

Not at all.. the only thing with the VTEC engines is they run higher compression which requires good tuning to ensure your engine runs properly under boost. It's harder to tune a higher compression engine for boost, and a Type R is a little high on the compression to be running a turbo with. It can be done with no problems, but the higher you run the compression it's easier to cause detonation and you'll need a really good tuner when you start getting close to 11:1+ with a turbo.

If you're looking for a B series swap to turbo I would look into either a B16a or B18C.

If it's done right it will make a lot of power. The block just needs a little work to make sure it can handle the higher RPM and piston speeds with the VTEC head. At the very least I would install ARP rod bolts and a GSR/ITR oil & water pump. Since you already would have the head off as well you might want to consider ARP head studs too.
