..is grounded.
ok, crx - rear speakers worked in july when i installed them; sometime within the last month *something* happened and now it's like they're not in there; fade to rear = zero.

checked the back of my head unit, everything looks to be snugly wired, checked each of the rear speakers, they're functioning independently when tested, and wired good too..

i think now i have to chase wire and see if i see anything there..so where *is* that wire - meaning, do i have to tear up the dside or pside kicks (or both)?

thx for any help..

See if you can find a new head unit, and try that one.

If you can't find a known good head unit, try hooking the front speakers to the rear outputs, and the rear to the front outputs. If the front still works, you've got a wiring problem. Then start tearing up the dash/floor. In my '95 civic, the rear speaker wires went down the drivers' side inside a little track.

Actually, it might be easier to just run new wiring than to trace the old stuff, unless you have a tone/trace tool. If you're running new wires, you might as well put a 4-channel amp in the back, and run some power and signal wires to it too. But meh, maybe that's too much work.

Best of luck finding the problem.

If you are using the stock wire then it would be easier to just run new wire from head unit to speakers. If that doesnt fix it then the amp in your head unit might have went out. I had a panasonic once and the whole amp was fried and had to use external amp for all speakers.

thx you guys for the replies. i'm digging out the user manual for my head unit, and i do have an amp in the car but it's only been driving the sub. good call on updating the wiring...so i'm going to have to pull the kick panels, fold carpet back, and pull bench and rear interior side panels, right?

:bawling:

You might be able to get away with using a coat hanger or fish tape and get the wire to where you need it. I think I did that in my old rex but I sold it over 3 years ago. You can try taking a volt meter, testing each wire to see if it has a break in it.

Come down to Fort wayne.

The EASIEST possible way to find out if the wires are frayed/rusted in the body is to put a tone on one end and see if you get it at the other end.

Thats what I did with my escort to figure out what wire at the speaker was what in the dash (Ford fucked that car up, the color codes were so close that you could barely tell them apart).

Also you can put a 9volt battery up to each speaker lead to see if it makes the pop to see if the wiring is good.

I have had a problem with my Back Speakers wirring shorting out, or touching metal along the way were it is ripped or cut and it shorts out the back 1;s bad... just my though, maybe a wire on 1 of the 2 is hitting some metal some were and causing a short

update - well for whatever reason, the wires running back to my rear speakers in my rex were just dead. head unit tested out fine, speakers are fine...so i left the wiring harness and dead wires alone, and ran new wire back and all's well now. i mounted some carpet circles to the fender walls to protect the magnets of my speakers from jostling around/grounding out on 'em...might cut down on a few rattles too, who knows ;)

fyi the wiring harness goes down the dside kickpanel in my 91 rex, i coulda swore it went down the pside kickpanel in my 89...:shrug2:

buahahahaa....i actually felt a little sad sigh when i passed 420 - but i didn't realize i was already rockin' the sixes. i must be whoring ;)
