ok soo my brother is getting a t3/t4 turbo for christmas(complete kit) and we were wondering what would we have to do to run it on a d16 with intake, exhaust, and a GReddy E-Manage...he is gong to build the motor after awhile soo should we just keep the turbo at very low psi??

Get a better engine management setup than the Greddy it's a POS. You'll need a real engine management setup and tuning to make it work right or he might be building the motor a lot soon than he planned on when it blows up.

Also do a compression & leakdown test on the engine to make sure it's in good condition before installing the turbo. If it's showing any signs of fatigue/problems now the turbo is just going to accelerate them x10.

I would still go with the turbo just make sure you do it right. You can't just go bolt a turbo on and start driving it around because it will cause problems. If installed/tuned right they can be very reliable.

eh,,im not too sure rigt now...becuase if i go nitrous i wont have as much to worry about as with a turbo...bcuz then i can spray freely..with turbo its just there

motors built for nitrous and turbo are very simialer. sleeved bock, stronger pistons, stronger rods. low compression build. nitrous beats your motor too. any kind of forced/chemical induction does. engine managment is key on turbo cars, on smaller nitrous setups (50hp and lower) you just retard the timing a bit. do some research and figure out what you want to do before you jump into something that you have no idea about

thats the thing i will be the first to admit i dont know shit about nitrous or turbo cars.i know the basic concepts of turbo..and i know how to do is install a nitrous kit on the car...i do understand that i will need to deliver more fuel...soo should i get a zex dry kit??put on an adjustable FPR,AEM fuel rail, bigger injectors(310?), or what..after being told some stuff i dont think im headed for a turbo in the next few years..so instead of flaming me could you help me out and point me in the right direction

Either way you're going to need to upgrade some stuff. I'd go with the turbo personally, simply because its always there and it doesn't beat the shit out of your internals if it is setup correctly.

Yeah, the way I look at it is you can do it right the first time, or spend twice as much (and feel really dumb) fixing what you did wrong.

Buy a good turbo kit. Or piece together your own with quality parts. Then get it tuned by a professional. Your internals should be a reflection of your power goals.

well i talked to a guy that races a 93 hatch..with fully built lsvtec..he said he used to have turbo..but he likes the nitrous better...he has money and the car was professionally tuned and had a nasty turbo setup...i just dont think that running a turbo with the budget were on is a good idea...the car is a daily driver and wont be able to be built properly and tuned correctly for awhile...so what would be the best route..build for nitrous?or build for turbo and hold off on the turbo until the money is there for a good kit,and tune

Depending on what you do, it sounds like you will be building the engine for something. If you piece together a good turbo kit yourself it will still only cost about 1000 dollars more. I have seen the aftermath of a young kid who has installed a dry nitrous kit on his daily driver. It is hell on the piston rings and will eventually fry your internals. If you are gonna go nitrous atleast get a wet system so the appropriate fuel adjustments are made. Turbo is a better option in general which is one of the reasons that they are on factory cars, not to mention that nitrous is illegal for use on the streets. So in conclusion, a turbo kit is legal everywhere so you will have more fun everywhere without the risk of getting a ticket.

upgrading cars costs money, lots of money plain and simple. if you do something half assed your going to get half assed results. instead of having to have it right away, save some money and hook up the turbo.

didnt i tell you that building for nitrous is almost identical to building for turbo? if your actually going to build the motor then why not boost the piss out of it.

think your spending at least 500+ on a nitro setup(unless you get it used) just put that money towards the turbo

nope im payin 200 for the kit..but i think well just save for the turbo...we were going to buy it off of ebay...

Get something like a t25 and call it a day. I wouldnt go any smaller than that. That will spool quick and will give decent power. Plus you can piece together a whole kit for somewhere around 1k- 1.5k and trust me its worth it to wait.

lmfao

well your not getting any KIT for 200$ in less its 450$ shipping and even then its some ssautoshit ebay pos junk ass turbo kit and nitrous is money also maybe find a used wet kit for 350$ thats about what i sold my last zex kit for then your going to have to fill the bottle witch is around 50$ each time but from reading your post looks like you need to do allot of reading and learning my last DD was a turbo eclipse AWD running 16-18psi on the street 21-23 at the track so im a huge fan of the turbo nothing like BOOOST  my last 5 cars were a mix of fwd and awd talon/eclipse all turbo accept the fact that if you want to go fast its going to coust money and if not done right then its just going to be a never ending story of fix it.. race it ..break it ..repeat..... good luck

no..i can get a zex dry kit(complete) for $200
and, could you use some punctuation so i can understand??and to fill the bottle here is only $35...but i will probably build for turbo nitrous..so i would want low compression?

Good god. I am confused by your previous post. Turbo nitrous? Are you talking about turbo and nitrous? If so, you don't necessarily need lower compression. Its usually recommended with high boost applications. However, being a D16 and already having fairly low compression, I'd say just stick with the stock compression, but get a good set of forged pistons and rods. ARP rod bolts are recommended by most. You'll probably want to get a good PnP on the head and a decent cam/valvetrain rebuild depending upon how much power you are searching for, and who's tuning it.

It all depends on the tune. You can see 300 whp on stock internals safely, or 200 whp on built internals and pieces flying everywhere due to a bad tune.

hmm..im torn between what were going to do now...its my bros car and he really wants to run a turbo...soo hes probably def. going to save and build for a turbo...

also i have another question...we are just now finishing up the minime swap...a6 block with z6 head...when i do the timing i just need to set #1 piston at TDC and then line the marks on the cam flat with the head(with the word up..in the up postion)because i was on another site and they were saying some shit about turning the crank soo it changed 3 teeth, and then sumthing about ignition timing...soo what exactly do i have to do...
